OCALA, Fla. — A convicted sex offender apparently committed suicide in despair over signs posted in his neighborhood calling him a child rapist.

Clovis Claxton (search), 38, was found dead by his father with one of the signs beside his body. It was less than a day after his release from a psychiatric hospital.

His mother blames Marion County (search) Commissioner Randy Harris (search) for her son's death. Harris proposed putting up flyers in the neighborhoods of sex offenders to alert neighbors.

We are talking about sex offenses here.

So you want the death penalty for underage sex?

Sounds kind of extreme to me.

I thought of that before I posted. It's a good question.

Based on what I understand from the Bible, I don't believe God would want anyone to commit suicide because suicide is immoral.

Here, take and read this page.

Two of the 6 sob's that raped and murdered these two girls, (one 14 and the other 16), were 17 years old. Would you give these 17 year olds a pass?

But betraying Christ was immoral and yet it was clearly the result of God's will.

Throw away your strawman. Most of these sex offenders kill their victims. Dead people don't tlak ya know. We are talking about rape cases,. not consensual sex, but I think you knew that already. You are just being obtuse.

No one is talking about a death sentence for teens having sex. Grown men and innocent children is what we are talking about! Or a man who rapes a girl/women of any age, second offense, life in prison.

Will you make up your mind? If a 17 year old boy has sex with a 16 year old girl or vice versa, that is statutory rape, and the boy can then become a convicted sex offender. Are you saying that deserves life in prison?

Not every convicted sex offender deserves death or life in prison.

There have been teens that have killed little babies, and yes they should be given the death penalty. Being a minor is no excuse to be allowed to rape and murder in cold blood.

You are the one that said that, "A second offence even without killing the victim should result in the death penalty." So back up and think for a second. All sex offenders are not created equally.

Consensual sex is different than rape. A second rape without killing the victim deserves death. Is that clear enough for you?

I didn't say they did. In fact I do not believe in prison OR being put on a sex offender registry list, IF the case is about 2 kids having consensual sex. If the girl is under 16, some punishment is due yes, but not prison. If it is rape,(not statutory) then that is a different story.

Is that any clearer? I never suggested I thought a case like that should be life in prison or death!!!

No all offenders are not created equal, but all predators ARE!!

Which is why like some states, there needs to be levels on the registry. Highest level offense is a predator not just an offender.

"The problem is that so many otherwise intelligent people support that punishment when it is NOT what is judicially-awarded or legislatively-imposed, and yet they want it done anyway."

I want the law to put these people in a position, to not endanger others. I want that outcome, from the first sign of their behavior. Statistics indicate they will offend, over and over.

(People say "otherwise intelligent," when they think they are smarter than the other, that disagrees with them.)

If that is true, and if he repented and accepts Christ as his saviour, is his suicide still a sin?

None of us can judge what is in a person's heart at the time of his death. I personally believe that when someone commits suicide, they are truly NOT in their right mind, and thus are not making the decision with a clear mind. I believe that God would have compassion for that person.

His mother blames Marion County (search) Commissioner Randy Harris ...

I guess it had nothing to do with her son's aberrant behavior? I guess the fact that parents in a neighborhood wanted to protect their children from monster was an evil thing?

According to the "LAW" consensual sex can indeed be rape and that makes the "rapist" a sex offender. Not everything is as black and white as you may like it to be.

No all offenders are not created equal, but all predators ARE!!

Which is why like some states, there needs to be levels on the registry. Highest level offense is a predator not just an offender.

The problem is where the line should be drawn. Obviously murderers should be put to death. The problem comes when the lines aren't so bright. Should a teacher who is acused of raping two students face the death penaltiy if convicted? What if the case is based solely on the students word against the teacher?

The other question is whether a predator is more likely to kill his victims if he knows he will die if he is caught? Unintended consequences rears its ugly head when emotions come into play.

So yes having different levels of offenders is probably a good Idea. Simply killing the offenders may not be such a good idea : )

Nor does it say what kind of sex offender...the neighborhood called him a child rapist...but the article doesn't say what he was convicted of.

Even if it was reported, what would be reported may not have necessarily been what he actually did. With the proliferation of plea bargains and such, a rape could very easily had been plea bargained down to some lesser offense...
