Poinciana -- Joseph Gillett, 4, was watching TV on his family's sofa Monday night when a sport utility vehicle driven by an 11-year-old neighbor catapulted into Joseph's living room and bashed into the couch, throwing him across the room and into the kitchen, authorities and his family said.
Although the living room was littered with car parts, broken glass, bent miniblinds and other debris, Joseph emerged unscathed, his mother, Gina Gillett, said Tuesday.
"Yes, I'm OK," Joseph said as he played in the front yard.
Gillett had been folding laundry on the living-room floor, but she had gone into the kitchen to help her husband, also named Joseph, make dinner just before the 8:22 p.m. crash, she said.
"I hear like a big bang," said Gillett, 26, who cut her foot on broken glass and was the only person injured as a result of the crash. "I'm like, oh my goodness. I thought, is the world exploding?"
Gillett's 2-year-old son, Stephen, was in his room and was not hurt even though the force of the impact caused a VCR and a TV he was watching to topple onto the floor, his mother said.
There was initial confusion about who was in the SUV, which the driver's mother described as a Mazda Tribute. She would not give her name to a reporter Tuesday. Public records show Penny C. White owns the house.
The 11-year-old and her 14-year-old brother told rescue workers that their 2-year-old brother turned the ignition and switched the SUV into gear, said Glen Moore, acting Osceola County Fire Rescue battalion chief.

Previously I've been partial to Mourning Would.
It was ERRANT as shown by a proclivity to stutter!
I just don't remember this kind of stuff happening when I was a kid. Maybe a 14 or 15 year old a year or two shy of having a license. But not an 11 year old with a 2 year old in the car.
Happens every day...but it is more sensational if it is an e-vil SUV with it's "gas guzzling, people moving, blocking out the sunlight from the daisies" ways. That or some kid street racing in an underpowered compact import that Hollywood has convinced them was a race car.
Bad keyboard.

"I'm putting my car out of its misery," 64-year-old John McGivney said after the incident outside an apartment building in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, according to a police report that listed the car as "deceased". McGivney surrendered to police, was jailed on a firearms charge on Friday and released on bond a day later. He told them the car had been giving him trouble for years. "I think every guy in the universe has wanted to do... |
Another dazzlingly brilliant comment from the peanut gallery.
Our SUVs went thru obedience school at PetsMart
Don't let your guard down anyway. An obedience course can't change the natural temperament of the SUV. Never leave them alone with your children or something like this can happen.

Oh no, sir, officier, not me, it was my little brother. He done IT!...
"Alittle mentoring at a young age and you could avoid errancy when grown up. Just ask Rush!"
And I just bet that in your mind you made a hillarious and insightful point!
sure..
What's your point?
No, but you can remove the gas hose and withhold all other fluids such as oil, break fluid, radiator coolant, etc. until it grinds to a stop. Then you can burn it to the ground and ship it off to Pennsylvania.
I smell an SUV updated today...
I was thinking the same thing...my son is nearly two years old and I don't think there is ANY way he could turn on my car and put it in gear... ain't happening.
Besides, who was working the peddle???
