Man Arrested For Spitting [large amount of tobacco juice] On [the face of] Jane Fonda

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

Police said they arrested a man for spitting on Academy Award winning actress Jana Fonda during a book-signing stop in Kansas City Tuesday night.

Fonda, 67, spoke at Unity Temple, in The Plaza shopping district, about her new book, "My Life So Far" and her new movie with Jennifer Lopez called "Monster-In-Law."

At about 9 p.m., police said a man who had been waiting in line for about 90 minutes, passed a book to Fonda and then spit a large amount of tobacco juice into her face.

Thy said the man then ran away and was taken into custody by off-duty officers, who were providing security for the event.

Fonda declined to prosecute the man for allegedly spitting in her face.

It wasnt an insult to you, politics aside, it just offends me to see so many people cheering a guy for spitting on a woman.. its just extremely vulgar.

I knew someone would ask me to get out of their country simply for speaking out against what I thought was wrong, and well, I keep telling myself inspite of their apparent intolerance and hostility to me, that US is not a fascistic, totalitarian country and there is still some scope for freedom of expression.. but people like you only make me wonder if I'm wrong.

In any case, I'm actually going back to my country in 3 weeks, am just here to kill some time till then. I'll surely take back lots of fond memories about American hospitality and insulting treatment of foreigners, minorities and even their own women. /sarcasm>

Please feel free to visit India sometime in future, you'll get an idea of what civilization and culture really mean, and people will not hate you for being a "foreigner" nor would they idolize guys for spitting on women.

Contrary to the impression you could easily get from the moron cheerleaders such an action would normally be roundly condemned by the vast majority of Americans. We have had a number of FReepers lose their minds the last couple of months and they haven't found them yet.

Sorry to inform you, but there are a LOT of us who could disagree. This is nothing at all to do with FReepers here the past few months. This is about Traitor Jane Fonda! Lots of us have been interested for many years. Take a read up.

I know, most Americans have treated me fairly.. and I've done my good share to this society by writing papers and developing some patents, that are useful to the whole society.. I am therefore, leaving this country with many happy memories.

Its only a minority segment of people here and there, who seem to be very hostile and rude to me, simply because I'm a foreigner.

Michael A. Smith, a Vietnam veteran from Kansas City, was charged with disorderly conduct, a city charge.

Reached by telephone this morning, Smith called Fonda a “traitor” and said her protests of the Vietnam War were unforgivable. He said he went to the event at the Unity Temple, 707 W. 47th St., for the sole purpose of spitting in her face. He said he doesn't normally chew tobacco, but he did Tuesday.

“I consider it a debt of honor,” he said. “She spit in our faces for 37 years…It was absolutely worth it. There are a lot of veterans who would love to do what I did.”

Smith said he receives disability payments from the government for injuries suffered in the Vietnam War. He said he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and nerve damage caused by Agent Orange.

It was an assumption...I have found typically that most vets I know are more conservative than not....and I think their voting records bear that out.

I am not in the habit of qualifying generalizations I make. I think that habit is one of the downfalls of our culture.

But I could be wrong.

My apologies to liberal Nam Vets you know who woulda spit in her face too. And Gawd bless them. She needs to continue to feel the heat. Her contrition has never been genuine.
