Man Arrested For Spitting [large amount of tobacco juice] On [the face of] Jane Fonda

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

Police said they arrested a man for spitting on Academy Award winning actress Jana Fonda during a book-signing stop in Kansas City Tuesday night.

Fonda, 67, spoke at Unity Temple, in The Plaza shopping district, about her new book, "My Life So Far" and her new movie with Jennifer Lopez called "Monster-In-Law."

At about 9 p.m., police said a man who had been waiting in line for about 90 minutes, passed a book to Fonda and then spit a large amount of tobacco juice into her face.

Thy said the man then ran away and was taken into custody by off-duty officers, who were providing security for the event.

Fonda declined to prosecute the man for allegedly spitting in her face.

Michael A. Smith, 54, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, which is a city charge.

This guy could have spoken out to her, read a statement to her, whatever. But in my experience, men who spit on people (let alone on women) have serious mental issues. I'll simply ask, would John Wayne ever have spit on anyone? Even Tokyo Rose? I doubt it.

Please spare me. Spitting is nothing compared to what should be done to her. Since when is a movie star like John Wayne the moral example of how we should behave? Tokyo Rose was tried and convicted of treason. Ford later pardoned her for some extenuating circumstances. The French and other countries were far less charitable to collaborators after WWII. Justice was administerd in the streets and it went far beyond spitting.

It is interesting you are so offended by spitting. You should be more offended by what Fonda did.

I totally understand the feelings and don't really criticize him for doing it. Unfortunately, it will negatively reflect on the rest of us. If he had served there or had a relative who got spit upon, he did earn the right to do it. I'll give him that.

Yeah, I'm not in the "Higher Standard" group (though I love Hebrew National, and I don't really wish you spit-in-the-eye). I'm more in the "don't let them get away with ANYTHING" group, because when they get away with something without consequences, it just emboldens them to try something else.

For example, if they manage to bork Bolton on playground rumors that he's a bully, we need to take out one of their guys, publicly, in return. Very simple. For every tit, let there be a tat. For every jot, let there be a tittle. For quid, a quo. Etc., etc., etc.
