McBrien sounded crestfallen and devastated, struggling to find something to say.

I'm saddened. OK, not really.

I just see so many of us praising this new pope, for his strictness, his holiness. . . Then we hate in our heart (I sure have), call names (ditto) and sin against God in so many ways.

I have a hard time reconciling all of that, I suppose.

Nazis were anti Catholic and anti religion. This is why many Catholics hated Hitler. The "middle road" between communism and capitalism had the exact same policies as communism. But it's okay to ignore the Jews and Catholics murdered in Communist countries.

For the DU to jump up and down and say how horrible ignores the outpouring of love the left had for mercy killing of the unfortunates, which has so much similarity to whom they say that they hate most is just too much to listen to. They are free to display their own historical ignorance. Or should I say hysterical ignorance.

By becoming a Catholic priest, Pope Benedict was giving a very special good bye and don't come back wave to the Nazis and the Communists.

Ya know darlin',

there are lots of us who are sittin' on the fence, tryin' to decide which way to go when it comes to God...and stuff like that only makes us want to go as FAR away from you and your like, as we can.

HI Mol..

You should have heard the coverage at NBC. They sited how VERY conservative JPII was and speculated on how the pendulum might swing the other way with the new pope

LOL, the Fr. they had on said, "No,I don't think it will be swinging at all."

Actually, the Chief Rabbi of Rome worked closely with the then Pope, Pius XII, to shield and hide thousands of Jews in the Vatican, outlying monasteries and convents, and in the Pope's summer residence.

He praised Pius XII to the skies, as did other Jews - Albert Einstein among them. Pius XII was lauded by Israel as a "righteous Gentile", and thousands of trees were planted in Israel in his honor.

It wasn't until the son of an SS officer named Hochhuth wrote a play "Der Stellvertreter" - "The Deputy" - in the 1960s, blaming Pius XII for "not doing enough" to stop the Nazis, that this even became an issue. The slander has been revived recently by Hitler's Pope - a shoddily researched sensationalist book written by a failed seminarian with his knife out for Catholics in general.

Don't be misled by what appears to be a concerted effort to slander the Church.

Ratzinger was not a Nazi you slanderous fool. Being forced into the German Army to man anti-artillery guns does not make one a Nazi. His family even had to move due to his father's anti-Nazi beliefs.

I'm sure that the DUmmies would challenge the election results in the Florida court, if they could.

condemn them or not, church doctine is what it is, and those who do not care to adhere can find another church that is more in tune with their own inclinations. i trust that the Holy Spirit guided the cardinals in the election of this Pope, and so think that he IS the best thing for our church.

How do you know he hasn't?

Because as first runner-up to the Papacy, he's been on the cell-phone with me all afternoon.

I told him, replace those stupid Swiss Guards with some hot uzi-toting bikini-clad blondes.

He liked the idea.

Yep, and I felt pretty good about it last night when I finally went to bed.

Got a little worried this morning, but managed to keep the faith!

His election is a great statement to the world that our Church is in tact.
No split, depsite the wishes of the media.

The liberals can go pound sand.

Remember that link I sent you yesterday that has the
writings of Ratzinger? I'll resend it if need be.
He's one truly great man. In fact, EWTN has called
him a man of extraordinary gifts.

And how is that bad?

= )

I had three faves; the new Pope, Cardinal Arinze and the fellow from India (I'd read he was Quite Orthodox in his interpretation of the faith).

May God guide him well, Pope Benedict XVI.

We had a liberal Catholic on Sky News who said she was shocked and appalled. Always a good sign.

pointing out that he is the one who issued the papers saying that if you are Catholic and support abortion you should be denied the sacrements.

Has Kerry's office released a comment yet? ;-)

Not an open exchange of opinion.

Here's my opinion a 16-18 Year old kids makes mistakes, and don't have the best judgment which is why we don't even trust them with the vote. If He willingly joined the HJ, I imagine that upon maturing, he has repented from the sins of his youth.
