My Mother-in-law has lived with us for around 6 years and she hasn't been a problem at all. I closed off half of the Garage and made a nice bedroom for her just off our kitchen. She still gets around quite good. She plants a small garden every year (very small) and I'm glad we are able to provide for her. Despite the fact that her two daughters (my wife and sister-in-law) are registered republicans and quite conservative, her and I do not share the same political beliefs, but I simply never talk politics with her.

My mother-in-law is a kind hearted person who will always have a place in our home. After all... she is the one who brought my wife into this world :-)

I used to say the same thing before my mother died back in 1992. I'd give anything to hear her give me a hard time today.

10 minutes before my mother died, she called our house to wish my wife a happy birthday even though it was two days before her birthday. I was busy getting my drag boat ready for the next race (which was two days away) and I didn't stop what I was doing to say hello to her that night, she died 10 minutes later, and till this day, it haunts me. Call your mother and tell her you love her

I'd have to forgive her first and I'm not ready to do that. Every day of my life, she's made it clear that whatever I'm doing, it's not good enough. Whatever I want to do is wrong and whatever I believe is wrong, as far as she's concerned. I can't pretend like it's never happened.

My mother was the same way. The reason why parents do that is because they believe they must push you to be better. The day will come when your Mom says she is proud of you and you will scratch your head for days. Take it from somebody who has been through this process... Your mother loves you, or she wouldn't waste her time giving you a hard time.

When I was 15 I went to work for my Cousin in the Body Shop I own today. For the first 3 years I thought my name was "You stupid M***er F***er". It took me a few years to realize that he was shaping me for the challenges that lay ahead for me. He was a hard ass like nobody I have ever worked for and I thank God often that I was fortunate enough to work for him back then.

Those hard ass Drill Instructors in the Military have shaped some of our greatest leaders with their tough love, and this subject reminds me of the old saying.... "Success is never found on the path of least resistance"

After my three suicide attempts, my mother should have realized by now that I don't take criticism well. Either she's really stupid or she doesn't care if I die. She should know by now that harassing me about my life hasn't worked.

You are a lot stronger than me. All your posts here on FR are so very very pleasant for someone who has been through what you have. God has a plan for you my friend, otherwise you wouldn't be here. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. God loves you and so do we here on FR

Hello Tommy

My youth leader at church went to work in the Lebanon in the 70s and like you said even then it was considered a plum appointment.

I wish I had paid more attention to what he actually did because I am sure I would have learned a lot and it would have been fascinating. I remember when he came back we had a lot of stories of his time there but not much about his actual work more about the Christian side of his time there and what work he managed in his spare time to do with the local community.

I wish now we as a group had asked more about his work he was the sort of man who would have enjoyed explaining it because the little he did talk about it now in retrospect was very interesting. He worked for the World Bank and it was quite a big appointment to do with agriculture as he was the Principle of Wye College near Ashford which is one of the major Agriculture colleges (universities in England).

Your tax filing confuses me. In the UK normally the only people that have to do tax returns are self employed or people that own a business. The number of people though I keep hearing about filing their tax returns I keep thinking surely they don't all own their own businesses or do self employed jobs.

In the UK I do know some people who do fill in a return if they believe there is something they should have claimed for in the year but didn't but then unless their circumstances changes they would not need to file another one the following year because their tax code would be altered and the correct deductions would be made from their pay.

Is your system the same or is it different? I get the impression rightly or wrongly that some of your tax is deducted/paid as you go but some is collected at the end of the year can someone explain to a confused English person? Thanks.

How did the exhibition/trade fair go? Was the show a success for the business you were representing I know how tiring they can be both myself and my mother have done them and it is great if it goes well. Sometimes the results are not seen immediately but one has the feeling that you either pick up information about the competition, what is going on in the industry in general or even sometimes actually pick up new clients. Then it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

If however the exhibition is flop all round one comes home feeling very tired and depressed and wondering why you bothered in the first place, hope yours went well.

I knew it was pretty strong or nasty stuff thats why I have never used it.

I am surprised though you cannot buy it or something very similar in the States I always thought we were the more nanny society than you.

We cannot buy aspirins or paracetamol in packets of more than 16 some shops do allow you to buy 2 packets and some chemists actually supply them in one bottle or packet of 32 but you have to go to the pharmacy section to get that.

I know when I have seen people buying Night Nurse very often the Pharmacist tries to get them to have a different product or encourages them to have Day Nurse which I suppose it not so strong. If they insist on Night Nurse he gives them a list of instructions and tells them they must only use it for so long. Hence why I have kept away from it.

Some lovely doggie pics Sara. I had not seen the one of the little girl in the Oval Office who is obviously on some sort of visit or tour with her parents. How sweet whilst all the grown ups are talking she has wandered off to play with Spot (she was a lovely dog).
