Last Updated Apr 22 2005 01:36 PM CDT WINNIPEG Some 50 people who were on a trip from Winnipeg to Washington, D.C., are recovering after coming down with symptoms similar to food poisoning.
The Asper Foundation was one of the sponsors of a program that sent 114 students and 24 chaperones to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
While they were returning home, more than 50 of the group's members were overtaken by an illness that caused them to vomit and left them dehydrated. Eight people were hospitalized; all but two have since been released. Those who became ill had not eaten the same things, but the illness seemed to strike at the same time, on the second leg of the air trip home.
