Terror threat from within keeps America on high alert
By Andrew Ward
Published: April 18 2005 18:20 | Last updated: April 18 2005 18:20
A decade after Timothy McVeigh blew up the federal government building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, domestic terrorism remains a serious threat in the US.
That is the assessment of a senior Federal Bureau of Investigation official responsible for tracking home-grown extremist groups. The threat has not gone away, says John Lewis, deputy assistant director of the FBI. We are dealing every single day with a variety of domestic terrorism threats that are alive and well in this country.

Nuclear weapons produce EMP, neutrons and blast damage. The type of damage caused is dependent on the construction of the device and the manner of deployment. Optimal results are more difficult than you might think. Still, a real nuke packs a lot more punch than conventional weapons. A clueless deployment will still do lots of damage.

Terrorists and nuclear plants
Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service
(KRT) - The following editorial appeared in the Chicago Tribune on Saturday, April 16:
In this year's story line on the television series "24," terrorists set the country's nuclear reactors to meltdown through some high-tech wizardry. The show's pure fiction, of course. But it's not a stretch to believe that terrorists might seek to target a nuclear facility. The Sept. 11 commission noted that al-Qaeda initially included unidentified nuclear plants among an expanded list of targets.
The nuclear power industry asserts that, since the Sept. 11 attacks, security has improved at the nation's 103 operating nuclear plants. But potential vulnerabilities remain. One trouble spot: the tons of spent nuclear fuel stored at many plants in water-cooled pools, either in the ground or in concrete-and-steel structures mounted high above ground.

Why do I not believe any of them?
Saw this & thought of you ;)
JP....I don't believe them either...especially because of the above paragraph. It seems too contrived that it was "found" at an airport, no specific details are given and they are acting so quickly to get the U.N. involved...it definetly does not pass the smell test.
Warnings issued for Tunisia, Central African Republic
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The State Department on Tuesday cautioned Americans in Tunisia to be alert to potential terrorism for the next three months, saying it had strong indications that imminent terrorist actions may be in the planning stages.
No specifics about targets, timing or methods were offered in the travel alert. However, the State Department noted that attacks may occur near dates of religious significance, such as the Moulid holiday in the third week of April.
