HTML Help Wanted

Posted on 04/13/2005 3:26:36 PM PDT by Tom D.

I have looked at the HTML Boot Camp and have learned a lot there, but I have been unable to learn how to post a picture that is resident on my computer that I did not get off of the web. I know how to post a picture taken from the web using the form:

img_src="http://www.hotpix.com/images/xyz.gif" (enclosed by < >)

I do not know how to post a picture that I have stored on my hard drive. For instance, say I take a picture of Teddy Kennedy in a drunken stupor slobbering all over Hillary Clinton with my digital camera. I save the picture on my home computer and then want to post it on FreeRepublic.

Since I do not have a web address in the form of www.drunkenteddy.com/stinkoncrap.gif, the above form will not work.

I will appreciate any help that any of you who are much better versed in HTML can provide. If it makes any difference, I use Windows XP.

Thanks,
Tom D.

You can't post it from your computer. It has to be on the web somehow. I know there are some free sites out there where you can upload your pictures but I can't think of them right now. I'm sure others will.

You can't post picson the NNet off of your PC. The picture must but hosted on an internet server (http or FTP).

Unless, of course, you happen to be running a web server.

Not that I would recommend that for the OP....

Try photobucket.com. Upload your photo to that site, then copy the HTML code that begins with "< img" and paste it in your post.

Better yet, you can get cheap site hosting for as little as $8 a month. You can get your own domain, and FTP your pics to the site.

There are a lot of pic hosting services out there, but don't use antyhing with tripod in the name, you won't be able to post the pic anywhere.

Hi Tom, you need to upload your pic to a site which will host your image(s) for free.

Shutterfly.com will host your pics for free. You have to sign up (it's free). Then you can post your pics.

It has to be on the web or else it won't work. Sometimes your ISP offers free space for uploading pictures, but if you have too much traffic, you'll go over your limit and the picture won't show.

Check your ISP's home page for details.

I use www.tinypic.com. When the picture is hosted, copy the tagline onto your notepad, or in a saved word document. That way, you can have a saved file of photo taglines that you can use over and over, instead of hosting a picture every time you want to post it. If you do that, make sure you title each line that you save so you will know what they are.

Tinypic is very easy to use, and it's free. I'm sure there is a downside, but I haven't found it yet.

You have to have the pictures stored on a web server somewhere, a file on your drive, is not available for the rest of the world to download.

http://www,tinypic.com is the best bet

They provide the hosting you want and give you the correct HTML code to use to post the link to your picture in a reply here. They also make it extremely easy for you to upload your picture to their server
