Islam Key Factor in Deciding Next Pope

VATICAN CITY, With the high importance of dealing with Islam and Muslims’ issue, all candidates for the highest Papal seat have strongly expressed positions on whether relations with the Muslim world should be conciliatory or a notch more confrontational.

The Vatican’s 155 cardinals will meet to select the next pope to succeed John Paul II, who adopted a ground-breaking strategy for enhancing dialogue with Muslims.

Cardinal Angelo Scola is among the leading Italian candidates who adopts liberal ideas on bolstering dialogue with the Islamic world.

“Integration with the Muslim world will take place in Europe, because I cannot see where else it can happen,” Scola said recently, referring to the growing number of inter-marriages and contacts.

In 1986, the late pope invited Muslims and followers of other faiths to Assisi to pray together for world peace.

In May 2001, he became the first pontiff to make an official visit to a mosque in the Syrian capital Damascus.

Cardinal Francis Arinze, from Nigeria, a man who grew up among Muslims and says there is no clash of cultures.

“God can speak to us through other believers,” “From sincere Muslims, Christians can learn, for example, the courage of sincere prayer. They pray five times a day, and no matter where they are -- be it the railway station or the airport -- they will do it. Whereas many Christians are ashamed of making the sign of the cross in a restaurant or pulling out a rosary on a train,”

Following the footsteps of his predecessor in Milan, Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, Tettamanzi has urged Catholics to “go to the houses of Muslims” during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

“For a true dialogue, one must share their innermost convictions,” he said.

Read "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire." The whole history of the 1,000 year decline and fall of the Eastern Roman Empire, which happened after the fall of the Western Empire in the fifth century, A.D., is essentially the history of the Muslim conquest of Eastern Christendom.

The Christian West, under the Roman Catholic Church, was severely threatened by the Islamists all through the Middle Ages and into the seventeenth century. It took many centuries of brutal warfare, with the West usually on the defensive, for the Islamic threat to be stopped at the gates of Vienna in the early seventeenth century.

The success of the Pope's efforts to reach out to the Islamists can be measured by the body count from 9/11, Beslan, and many other atrocities.

Don't allow yourselves to be ensnared by what mere men say!
You must weigh what they say against the infallible word of God (the Bible). And, if it does not square with the Bible, do not follow their counsel! If God didn't say it, it just ain't so! The Bible contains your operating instructions for life. You gotta get way past reliance on mortal man!

Cardinal Arinze seems out of touch, claiming that there is no clash of cultures and that Christians can learn the courage of sincere prayer from Muslims

He must mean robotic, mindless, mechanistic prayer... No thanks

It is the Evangelical Protestant doctrine of 'Grace Alone' that is an 'anathema'. (a curse be upon their head)

Well that's certainly true. Thank you for pointing out the heretical position the Protestants take. But you know, even those heretics can get to Heaven.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Matthew 6:5

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:6

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6:7

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. Matthew 6:8

We need a militant Catholic as pope. Otherwise Islam will continue to swarm the West as it is now doing ....quite successfully, too. Add to that how the Catholic Church has weakened its moral strength in the eyes of the world by letting an abomination prevail among its priests and in its seminaries.

Things must change or kiss it all good-by.

Your enemy is willing to die for his cause....and you are not willing to die in your own defense. That means you may have lost already considering the numbers alone.

Good Muslims (which would be apostate Muslims), good Buddists, good hindus, good wicaans, good snake worshipers, good American Indian shaman followers, good Marxiss, good Jews, etc can get into Heaven..because of their good works..

Umm.....no.

But we do believe that ignorance is an excuse. How much of an excuse in an age where the gospel is preached around the world, Lord knows. Part of the relevant teaching from the Catechism:

1260 "Since Christ died for all, and since all men are in fact called to one and the same destiny, which is divine, we must hold that the Holy Spirit offers to all the possibility of being made partakers, in a way known to God, of the Paschal mystery."62 Every man who is ignorant of the Gospel of Christ and of his Church, but seeks the truth and does the will of God in accordance with his understanding of it, can be saved. It may be supposed that such persons would have desired Baptism explicitly if they had known its necessity.

Ah, but if you actually go to the Bible, John 3:16 says clearly "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" and John 3:18 says, "He that believeth on his is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God". I'm sorry, but I think you have it backwards

Don't know...I'm not a Muslim, but just because a few out of control fanatics have hijacked the religion doesn't mean you can judge them all on the few's actions. In fact, you shouldn't be judging at all...but I will let that issue rest for another day.

Why would the Pope a man allegedly of peace add credence to a fake religion that specializes in violence? and to continue mainly against Christiana at that..I think another crusade is in order.

It should be noted that Scola is one of the most conservative papabili. He is an able theologian and philosopher, a follower of the great 20th century theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar, and a definite "culture warrior." If he tends towards embracing Islam, it is almost certainly because he identifies secularism as the greater threat.

My worry about him is that the American Catholics he is closest to, the people associated with the theological journal Communio, tend to be anti-American and anti-market from the right. They are the chief conservative Catholic opposition to Novak, Neuhaus, and Weigel (so called Whig Thomists) and really see in the American political tradition nothing but liberal individualist dreck. I think that John Paul II was trying to save modern freedom from itself, while I would fear that Scola would just think it a bad idea not worth saving. But in fairness I must say that I don't know anything about his broader social views -- I'm just worried about the intellectual company he keeps.

You can just imagine the first meeting between the leaders of both religions: "Okay, I´ll give you 3 million of my followers in Africa for 4 million of yours in Europe.

Thanks for the ping John...

I am not Catholic and have no personal interest in who is selected as the next Pope. However, for Islam to have any say or influence in who the next Pope is, is completely outrageous.

When is the world going to wake up to the danger and evil of Islam?

"But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron." I Timothy 4:1-2

I was very interested in your reply. I used to receive Communio years ago but have rather lost touch with it. Who are the writers now with whom Scola agrees? Are we talking radical communitarianism, perhaps?

I certainly hope Scola is not in the "embracing Islam" mode, although I could certainly see the agree-to-disagree and agree-on-crucial issues model working here. The problem is that Islam will never agree to disagree; its one goal from the start is total domination, not "dialogue," and theologians and politicians who think otherwise are fools.

Seems this Scola guy is interested in merging (read integrating) all religions into one. MAJOR danger sign there.

Stuff to watch for: one world religion, peace in Israel, cashless economy (mark of the beast). I see the ground work for all 3 being laid right now. Just a matter of time.

Fine. I'll settle for killing enough so that the rest realize it's in their own self interest to root out the "few out of control fanatics" that have "hijacked" their religion.

What kind of pig religion is it that the members don't care enough about to take back anyway???

The frigging passengers took back Flt 93 - and it wasn't even their freaking airplane, fer Chrissakes!
