The Ice Queen (A Day of 'Astonishing Put Downs' for Camilla Parker Bowles)
News of the World UK ^ | 4.10.05 | Clive Goodman

Queen Elizabeth II delivered some extraordinary wedding day snubs to Prince Charles and his bride Camilla Parker Bowles yesterday. Her gloomy Majesty barely cracked a smile throughout the day. She never spoke to her new daughter in law and wouldn't even look at her.

At one point, the Queen frostily turned her back on Camilla during the blessing of the couples marriage.

But the worst moments for the new Duchess of Cornwall came when it was time to take the traditional family photos on the steps of St. George's Chapel. Royal aides had expected the Queen and Prince Phillp to spend at least five minutes posing with the newlyweds.

But the queen barely managed to spare 52 seconds to stand alongside the happy couple. She did not say a word to Camilla, now the country's second highest ranking royal, but spoke to her son.

Queen: 'That all went rather well.' Charles: 'Yes.' Queen: 'We are leaving now.' Charles: 'Oh, I really want a picture of us all.'

The Queen then moved quickly to stand further away from her new daughter in law, stepping around her to stand beside Charles. It was a day of astonishing put downs for Camilla, 57, delivered by her mother in law.

One observer told us: 'If the Queen had been any quicker, the pictures would have to been done on a speed camera. She looked grumpy and frosty to the bitter end.'

There were mutterings among the female guests as the Queen broke the golden rule of weddings--upstaging the bride by wearing white. Her off white outfit was almost exactly the same color Camilla had chosen for her civil wedding.

One guest said: 'She didn't join in on any of the prayers or hymms, she looked miserable.' Then, as the congregation sang 'Love Divine,' she lowered her order of service and turned her back on Camilla--even Prince Phillip was forced to shoot her a look!

One family friend told us: 'It was tough on Camilla. It wouldn't have killed the Queen to say well done. Nobody expected her to throw her arms around the woman but she was very cold to her.'

Later, things appeared to have warmed as the Queen unexpectedly made a speech at the reception--but later than cracked a joke at Camilla's expense, appearing to compare her to a horse.

To laughter from the guests in the State Apartments, she told the newlyweds, 'Welcome to the winners enclosure!' Seconds earlier, she had told the crowd that she had an important annoucement to make and then declared who won the Grand National Horse Race.

The Ice Queen

When I read the title, I thought the article was about Hillary.

My guess it that the Queen has resolved to herself that Camilla will never take her place.

And to do that, she must live so long to ensure that William will become King.

from the look of it, the most important thing that Camilla will export to the world is the importance of hats.

Ya gotta be kidding...

I thought her hat looked like a bleeping bird's nest.

I love hats too. Just go ahead and wear them. I sometimes do and always get compliments, even from strangers.

They are popular with black church going ladies. There was a large article before Easter in the Slimes about hats. Some were funky, but most were very nice. They interviewed several women who owned hundreds of hats, and featured several hat shops in South Central LA. Pretty interesting article.

My mom wore hats to church, as did I until I was a teenager. Then I just wore a lace mantilla.

> The whole Charles, Diana, and Camilla scandal hurt the monarchy's image with ordinary folks at home.

Sad thing is that there even *is* a monarchy to have an image. The *one* thing the Bolsheviks did right...

I am optimistic that hats will make a greater comeback in the rest of the US. Last week I saw the play "Crowns", about the role that hats played in the lives of several Afro-American women. It was wonderful and this weekend I went by a shop in New Orleans which featured a big-time hat with every outfit on display. What a delight! It made me feel good just to walk by the shop.

No--not hers. Her guests--now they had some fine headgear on! Hers featured a feather that was too dark, not nuptial-looking. It looked too autumnal, not spring-like.

You thought wrong. Camilla turned Charles down because the media would be too much. Diana loved him and he even cheated on her on their honeymoon. Diana was a humiliated wife who later went out on her own to get love and affection. The royals didn't even want them to get a divorce. Charles is a weak cad. Camilla had caused countless people misery WITH him.

My opinion? They should have been married many years ago. The lovely and spirited Diana would still be alive and probably married to some lucky, younger and better-looking guy, and Charles and Camilla would have happily produced ugly heirs to the throne in keeping with the tradition of the royal family. The queen? She would have had to 'get over it'.
Of course, William and Harry wouldn't exist and, since they are probably the best things that happened to the royal family in a long time, that WOULD be a shame!

It has always been obvious, to me, that Charles and Camilla were more alike than Charles and Diana. The Queen should have allowed them to marry long ago. It was in poor taste to be so rude to Camilla on her wedding day - no matter how displeased she was. She should have been more gracious for the sake of decorum.
Just my humble opinion.

I think the same things.

First of all if it were my son I could never be mean to him and treat him that way. To disrespect his new wife is to disrespect him. Doesn't LOVE mean anything to her? Didn't she hurt her son already in choosing his bride for him? These people are over the edge.

Charles and Camilla should have married a long time ago without the interference of the Queen Mother. Life is short and some people NEVER find their true love. Charles has it and has to give it up in order to have an heir to the throne.

Unfortunately, Charles never had the strength that "Edward, the Uncrowned King" had. He truly gave up everything including the Crown for the woman he loved. He chose correctly and I admired him for it.

Anyway it's over and I hope people will drop it now. As for Camilla, I too think she can overlook the ignorance and stupidity of the rest of the royals. She did after all win her prince and...dont' think she ever lost him during those years he was with Diana. Don't get me wrong, I liked Diana...she was the most westernized of everyone but...she too admitted "cheating" so...there are no saints in this situation.

Good luck and best of everything to Charles and Camilla.

Claptrap Charlie's an ass. His whore of 30 years is no better. She propositioned him 30 years ago and he, the idiot that he is, fell for the ruse hook, line and sinker. An accident of birth will make him the Head of the Church of England in his position as future King. He had a responsibility to the position and to the people to be a leader but he shirked it. Both are morally lacking & ethically challenged equivalent to the clintoons. If he didn't want the responsibility, he should have stepped aside. He was the 3rd person in the mutt's marriage & the mutt was the 3rd person in Claptrap's marriage. Their union represents two whores getting together & legitimizing themselves for appearances sake. Bullsh*t on any appearance his people & MSM try to spin the whorish union. These two people are the most selfish and self-centered individuals in the limelight today.

Here's a takeoff on a joke entitled: Charlie & his dog.

Prince Charles was driving around his mother's estate when he accidentally ran over her favorite dog, a Corgi, crushing it to a pulp. He got out of his Range Rover and sat down on the grass totally distraught.

The whole world was against him and now his mother would go ballistic.

Suddenly he noticed a lamp half-buried in the ground. He dug it up, polished it and immediately a genie appeared.

'You have freed me from thousands of years of imprisonment,' said the genie. 'As a reward I shall grant you one wish.'

'Well,' said the Prince, 'I have all the material things I need, but let me show you this dog.'

They walk over to the splattered remains of the dog. 'Do you think you could bring this dog back to life for me?' the Prince asked. The genie carefully looked at the remains and shook his head. 'This body is too far gone for
even me to bring it back to life. Is there something else you would like?'

The Prince thought for a minute, reached into his pocket and pulled out two photos. 'I was married to this beautiful woman called Diana,' said Prince Charles, showing the genie the first photo. 'But now I love this woman called Camilla,' and he showed the genie the second photo.

'You see Camilla isn't beautiful at all, so do you think you can make Camilla as beautiful as Diana?'

The genie studied the two photographs and after a few minutes said, 'Let's have a look at that dog again.'

I'm just so sad about all of this.

Don't be. There are a lot better and more worthwhile things for which to be sad.
