Well, if Canucks are so enthusiastic to have Prince Charles as their future king, I suggest that when the Queen dies, Charles becomes King Charles III of Canada, while his son William become king for the rest of the Queen's realms and Britain itself. ;-)

Seriously, I'd support the idea of Prince William becoming Governor General of Canada sometime in the next decade or so. It would remind Canadians of our history and it wouldn't be bad boot camp for a future King of the Commonwealth.
Just a thought.

I suggest that when the Queen dies, Charles becomes King Charles III of Canada He in fact does become King of Canada - and of Australia and New Zealand and a few other dominions.

When ever will the Canucks come to realize that the whole king thing is really stooopid? Kings gotta put their britches on one leg at a time, just like Me!

Correction: it is no longer "dominions" but "realms" - you happening to be speaking to one from one of these countries. :)

I certaily know that - perhaps much more than you given that the Queen is my own Head of State. (no malice intended) I'm suggesting the law of succession altered in everywhere of all the Queen's realms and Britain itself except Canada, so that when the Queen dies, the throne goes to Charles for Canada, but William for everyone else.

They will never abandon the monarchy. The institution has become an American-bashing occasion - "We are not Americans because we are a monarchy!" . Don't laugh at this, but the places with highest royalist sentiment is Ontario, a place hardly conservative overall (I know, that many places in Ontario are socially evry conservative - but notice that support of the monarchy remains equally strong in Toronto as well)

There is absolutely no precident for the future Prince of Wales acting in such a subordinate role as the GG of a Commonwealth country.
The GG is Canada's representative of the Crown. If William was appointed GG he would in essence be be representing himself as the future King of England.
"What do you think William?". "I don't know William, what do I think?"
A bit Monty Python if you ask me.
If you want to know the history behind the GG's relationship between the Canadian government and the Crown goto.

65 per cent of Canadians believe he should become king despite being divorced And 75% would have been in favor if he had married a man.

Better yet, bring the monarchy home - make William King Of Canada, abolish the Governor General's position and rename the country The Kingdom Of Canada/Royaume Du Canada as the Fathers Of The Confederation had originally wanted.

I disagree. I think republicanism smacks too much of throwing tradition to the winds. Its better for Canada to have a monarchy. The pageantry is something you can't get with a republic.

He ain't divorced; Missus Kurz, she dead. But he WAS divorced from Diana, and only her untimely death saved him from this stigma. Camilla is divorced also.
