Court documents say it's possible a nine-year-old Florida girl who was abducted and killed may have been alive when officers first questioned the suspect.
HOMOSASSA, Fla. (AP) - John Couey, who is a convicted sex offender, had been staying with his half-sister near the home of Jessica Lunsford. Police went to the half-sister's home twice while looking for the child, and said no suspicions were raised.
Police say that Couey later told them he was hiding in the home during the second interview.
The court documents released Thursday say that the timeline "leaves open the possibility" that Lunsford was alive during each interview. Sheriff Jeff Dawsy has said that Couey was in a "drug haze" during the abduction.
Lunsford was found sexually assaulted and buried near the mobile home.

INVERNESS, Fla. (AP) - A registered sex offender who authorities say confessed to murdering a 9-year-old Florida girl now says he's innocent.
John Couey entered a written plea on Monday.
He's charged with capital murder, burglary with battery, kidnapping and sexual battery on a child less than 12 years of age in the death of Jessica Lunsford of Homosassa.
Couey was living across the street from the girl when she disappeared from her bedroom the night of February 23rd.
Authorities say he confessed and told detectives where to find Jessica's body.
Couey's public defender says the defendant is invoking his constitutional right to remain silent, so there will be no comments to the media.
Prosecutors say they'll seek the death penalty.
The bastards sister needs to be charged as well for not telling police that her brother is a sex offender.

The inhabitants did not reveal that a sex offender was staying there.

I think the sister needs to be investigated. Any family that produced him, and she hid him from the police KNOWING he was a sicko pedophile, well there's a connection I'll bet.
They better check into the sister as well.
I am shaking. That, if true, is beyond being evil - it is evil incarnate. But, if she was alive, under the steps, why didn't those rescue dogs find her? Were they with the police the second time they questioned the sister?
I thought from what we heard before, that he buried her after (oh I hate to say this) he murdered her, and after the search in that area had stopped. I also understand he was in such a stupor he probably doesn't remember anything certain. Can someone clarify for me?
