POPE'S BURIAL ENDS THE LULL -- STORM COMING

POPE’S BURIAL ENDS THE LULL—STORM COMING

Catholic League president William Donohue remarked as follows:

“The storm is about to hit. For the most part, anti-Catholic bigots and the disaffected dissidents within the Church have been quiet. What they have been waiting for is about to happen: the week between the end of the mourning and the beginning of the conclave is upon us. And that means the Left is ready to explode.

“Consider what we’ve heard already. Amidst the mostly favorable coverage by the media of Pope John Paul II, he has been branded as follows: an authoritarian who seeks to silence dissent; the enemy of homosexuals; a misogynist; a polarizing figure; a man who is out of touch with the modern world; a contributor to death due to AIDS in Africa; responsible for the sexual abuse scandal; and so on.

“And we’ve heard a CBS newsperson blast the pope for ruling the Church with ‘an iron fist’ (this was said between the final four basketball games on Saturday); the Jewish Forward said whatever good he did may be undermined by his ‘battles around the world for sexual repressiveness and against reproductive freedom’; the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis posted a sign on its property saying, ‘ALL WELCOME, CHRIST IS ALIVE, THE POPE IS DEAD’; the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust commented on ‘the spectacle of grotesquerie and human ruin that has lately filled the balcony above St. Peter’s Square’; Christopher Hitchens said he was ‘part of the coverup and obstruction of justice’ attendant to the homosexual scandal; Sister Helen Prejean, who is soft on abortion, took him to task for not changing his mind soon enough on capital punishment (and in doing so managed to misrepresent his pronouncements on the subject—the pope never said it was an intrinsic evil like abortion); and a website called ‘HillaryNow,’ operated by Robert Kunst, said that when the pope went to Israel, he ordered an ambulance to follow him so that in the event he needed a transfusion, he would not have to access ‘Jewish blood.’

“But this is nothing. Many have been waiting for this moment for more than a quarter century. When they lose again, watch out.”

What I'm questioning is that there are no images of the first and second caskets.

Be gone anti-Catholic.

The first casket is the one at the funeral - lots and lots of pic's of that.

Additionally the third casket is walnut according to the talking heads on TV, not elm as asserted in the wierd link you gave.

From your own Wikipedia link posted above:

The cypress casket was lowered into a larger solid zinc (traditionally lead) casket, which was soldered shut. This coffin was adorned with three bronze plaques: a simple cross at the head of the coffin, a plaque with the Pope's name and dates of birth and death at the centre, and Pope John Paul II's personal coat of arms at the foot. The zinc casket was finally lowered into a larger walnut (traditionally elm) casket, bearing three identical plaques, which was shut with nails of pure gold.

Looks like, once again, you posted a false statement on this site.

For some reason, I'm not surprised.

You can't tell, since there are no images, except a photo of the third casket, of the bural rite.

THE SKY IS FALLING!

This is just like the people who claim that global warming will destroy the earth in 50 years. Not much in the way of supporting evidence, but long on ranting.

Good lord, at least wait until there actually IS some actual hatred coming out before talking about it!

If "you can't tell", then how can you be so certain that a skull and crossbones appear on the zinc casket?

Or are you now admitting that you made that up?

Don't worry, they won't go to Mass anyway, unless it's Easter or Christmas, judging by attendance at my Church.

Yup,same here.I call them C and E catholics.

Any examples?

Uh, yea....

As you can plainly see, there is NO SKULL AND CROSSBONES.

Considering this picture is from a thread YOU WERE POSTING TO, you're completely clueless, aren't you?

I'd rather not start what is often called "Catholic bashing." I'm sure you know the age-old disagreements that Evangelicals have with certain Roman Catholic doctrines.

My point was that just because someone has disagreements with some of what the Pope did and stood for, doesn't make that person a contentious, left-wing, anti-Christian person. It's possible to BOTH have disagreements with some of his doctrines AND appreciate the fine life he lived.

You: Good self analysis.

Me: Nice how you selectively edited my reply.

I am FOR the war in Iraq. JP2 was AGAINST it. I find HIS position to be one of supporting EVIL since he was AGAINST the war. JP2 would rather have had millions of more people tortured and murdered since that is what would CONTINUE to happen if the U.S. and Blair had not STOPPED IT. I find you to be a shameless idiot who is blinded from truth and decency.

Nice find Tom. As I'm sure you know, this nitwit has been all over the Catholic threads deliberately distorting and lying about all things Catholic. It's truly shameful behavior.

When people are more concerned with maligning what others believe as opposed to advancing their own beliefs, it really makes you wonder.

As insane as his assertions were, I think the mods did him a favor. At least he has an excuse to be quiet for a while.

I think he may have set a record for being so completely wrong on so many things in so short a period of time.

I don't think there will be a *storm* unless the new Pope turns out to be overtly politcal, one side or the other. Catholicism survived some tough times last few years in the US, and from my view, has reassumed a strong position of leadership.

There's bound to be criticism, though, if only for the fact that there's bound to be disagreement on the positions of any world leader.

a shameless idiot huh? LOL

You might consider that your opinion is flawed in that it appears ignorantly based on at least two fronts.

First you apparently are not aware of Catholic teaching specific to the matter e.g. just what the Pope can and can not do regarding judgment and condemnation of the military actions in question.

Second you might consider that your knowledge regarding what the Pope actually stated versus what you were spoon fed by the MSM may be slightly askew.

Of course, you can continue in ignorance assuming Catholics are either disobedient to the Church by supporting military actions or assuming Catholics are traitors to the USA by being obedient to the Church. Either assumption is incorrect and based in ignorance.

turn to God, get away from religion. Got it.
Nah I don't think so.....

****

Were the Pharisees religious? They knew the Old Testament front and back. Why did they want Christ dead? Jesus called them white-washed tombstones full of dead mens works. There is a huge difference between faith and religion. Religion controls and destroys. Faith sets men free. You have no idea what you are defending....would you have been one of those calling for the release of Barabas and the death of Christ? Simply because Jesus taught against the religious of that time, He taught against the rules, rites and rituals, that entrapped men. Yet you uphold all that Christ taught against. Whom do you serve JohnnyZ? The true God or a system? Because if you serve the system, you will be destroyed with it. I didn't say that....God did. But I am sure that would be a subject you have not nor will be taught.

Scripture does contain the word "religion," and in some cases implies that it's GOOD.

Pharisaical religion is bad, but not all "religion" is bad.

*******

Adam and Eve walked by faith with God in the Garden. The tree they were told not to eat of was the knowledge of GOOD and Evil...not just Evil. What was it about the knowledge of GOOD that God did not want us to have, why didn't he want us to have it?

Satan is pure religion. He is not red, with horns and a forked tail. He is a beautiful Arch-Angel. Even in the deception of Adam and Eve he quoted God exactly and only added ONE word to what God had told them. Then they took what God said and changed don't eat to don't touch, one again a slight shift of God's word.

Scripture says..."There is nothing new under the sun." Look at the sutleness of the deception that threw all mankind under a curse. Do you think that sutleness will be any different today?

Few want truth....if it looks Good, they want to eat of it.
Man is building his own kingdoms.

And man will say.."But Lord... we prophecied in your name, we cast demons out in your name and HE will say ...Depart from me you workers of iniquity, I knew you not."
