Teacher forces preschooler to relieve herself in front of other students
WBIR (NBC-10 Knoxville) ^ | 4/7/5 | Jennifer Geiger , Producer

Posted on 04/07/2005 10:50:56 AM PDT by SmithL

A Knox County teacher is back on the job after making a pre-school student relieve herself in a bucket in front of other students.

It happened in early March to a little girl at the Sam E. Hill Family Community Center.

Sheila Knight was put on leave while the school system looked into the allegations.

DCS also investigated and found no evidence of abuse.

Knight later admitted to the accusations, called it "a severe lapse in judgment," and got a strong written reprimand. School officials say that was the strongest punishment allowed at the time.

Knight, who has worked for Knox County Schools for almost 20 years, is back on the job.

The student is in another classroom.

Yes, my clanging little cymbal, what exactly were you trying to convey?

That was a nitpick and does not address the issue I raised.

And no it does not assume ANY school would be better because it costs more. However, if you believe a "blue-blood" would pay that without superior results you just don't know your blue-bloods.

When they pay for excellence they damn well expect excellence.

So what is your point ? Only people who recognize that homeschooling costs more than sending the kids to a public school should homeschool ? So what ? Who cares ?

Homeschoolers do so for certain principles or outcomes: biblical teaching, academic excellence, morality, safety, character. How much money you're spending/costing, other than whether you can afford to pay your bills whilst homeschooling, is never the consideration. The value you place on the education of your child is worth more than the value of these dollars.

And FYI, my local public school district pays $16,000 per child per year on average. I know quite a few parents who send their kids to private school costing $18,000 per year per child not including related school fees and other costs. Why do they do it ? For the same reason that others homeschool. Money is one issue, but not THE issue.

he heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
But the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
5It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise
Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
6For like the crackling of thorns under a pot,
So is the laughter of the fool.
This also is vanity.

"When they pay for excellence they damn well expect excellence."

And that co-incides with liberal academia just how?

No you have posted ONLY a quotation from Proverbs which does not speak of education beyond that of Judea of 800BC and not even really about that.

You and I will just have to agree to disagree. I lead my family by the Bible, which is more than an instruction book for those living in Judea. It is an instruction manual for all of life and can be applied to all things.

Your posts seem to indicate more of a "cafeteria" style for the Bible ("I'll have a little of this...a little of that").

When parents are shown these scriptures then I often hear the tired phrase: "we need two incomes just to survive".

I don't buy that one, either. You'll get no argument from me about that particular sentiment.

However, I don't see a problem with supplementing a child's education with knowledge beyond that of the parent, which inevitably involves outside parties. Your arguments (in this thread) don't seem to allow for that.

Not a day goes by that I don't teach my children, or take responsbility for their education. This was true when we homeschooled, this was true when they went to a private Christian school, and it is still true now that they attend a public school. I have regular discourse with the principal and their teachers, and not much gets by me. I'm you claim I'm abdicating my Biblical duty as a parent by doing this, then call ME the heretic, because I don't buy it.

As I said beyond the simplest of beginning subjects the vast majority are incapable of adequately teaching. If you don't know a subject you can't teach it very well.

You have a very narrow concept of homeschooling. It is not always Mom sitting at the kitchen table with her little darlings working in textbooks and workbooks. Usually folks are OUT of their homes as much as they are in them. Homeschooling means the parents can find the best opportunities for their children in regards to education even if it's not considered 'education' by anyone else.

Some folks are into 'unschooling', that is letting the kids decide when they want to learn something. That's too loosey-goosey for me, at least in the early years. Kids need a good foundation for doing math and especially for reading because when they read well, they can teach themselves almost anything. Our daughter essentially had an un-schooling year last year, but she taught herself Japanese and Digital Video Editing while also having a little business on the side and completing part of a Biology textbook, which she taught herself, then attended a lab co-op with several other homeschooled friends.

She's attending Community College for just a few classes, taking the subjects that she likes, when her high school friends are stuck in the same building all day long. She is deciding which classes will further her opportunities when she applies to college. She is learning to plan her own future; that's one of the beauties of homeschooling.

If you read the original post I referenced you will see it is lacking in proper grammer to the point where much of its meaning is ambiguous or lacking.

Then it is up to the local churches to step away from their coffee groups and help this lady get back onto her feet.

Also, as I stated earlier, if the family consists of just one bread-winner then, of course, that person will need to bring in income.

I'm sure you think you're quite clever in throwing Scripture at us without comment. Sadly, you failed to learn the lesson of Jesus, who was always kind enough to explain what he meant when he would quote passages, parables, and the like. You must think you're above all that.

Obviously a product of homeschooling (full sarcasm on).

10We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! 11To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.
