A Knox County teacher is back on the job after making a pre-school student relieve herself in a bucket in front of other students.
It happened in early March to a little girl at the Sam E. Hill Family Community Center.
Sheila Knight was put on leave while the school system looked into the allegations.
DCS also investigated and found no evidence of abuse.
Knight later admitted to the accusations, called it "a severe lapse in judgment," and got a strong written reprimand. School officials say that was the strongest punishment allowed at the time.
Knight, who has worked for Knox County Schools for almost 20 years, is back on the job.
The student is in another classroom.

The verse that is commonly used and quoted for homeschooling is Deut 6:6-9.
And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in you heart, and you will teach them diligently unto your children, and will talk of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
The parent is with the child and teaching godly principles thoughout the day.
I homeschool down here in Orange County on just my husbands income. It is tight, no cell phone and other sacrifices, but it is worth it.

No, nor should the media try to play up these very few incidents to try to make gullible people like you believe that this is the only reason people homeschool. Creeps and other lowlifes exist in all areas of life.
Your definition of homeschooling is off - it does not mean only those who learn everything at home. Homeschooling means that the parents are in charge of the child's education and can choose how to educate that child - whether by teaching/learning at home or by using community resources.
Do some learning of your own before you make these types of assumptions.

Please. Translations of the original Hebrew have been butchered in so many places. There are threads about fights over Hebrew to English translations. Just 'cause your pastor says it means XYZ don't make it so.
Wow! We have a Greek and Hebrew scholar in our midst. Fantastic!
OK, lets get down to brass tacks. Where is the Hebrew "butchered"....specifically (and no dodging).

In about 10 years I will have kids in a yeshiva. Learning, among other things, how to stay Jewish.

Maybe you believe "majority" means "those who homeschool" but it doesn't. The majority does NOT homeschool and cannot. Those who do are investing tremendous amounts of time and money in their activities. FAR more than is done by public schooling. AND you are comparing children who in many cases have no REAL parents with those who have two highly involved parents. This is no accurate comparision. You don't believe that comparing schools which get to choose their students with those who do not is a fair comparision do you?
If one parent stays home from a job paying $30000 to homeschool two children that is equivalent to costing $15000 per student. Any school costing that would have results superior to the home schooled. You must look at ALL the costs of this and that is almost never done. I have no argument with those who recognize these costs and still HS just reject glib comments which do not recognize the total picture.
Your use of statistics in this manner shows that you do not understand that subject well enough to teach it. It is true that that is one of the MOST difficult subjects to teach for any teacher. But it is not the only one like that.

Calculus is a great tool to have in one's arsenal of skills; however, it does not matter one whit when it comes to eternity.
Priorities are important.

I see no Biblical evidence of that, heretic.

Do I sense a little bit of back-pedaling and soft-shoe now that you have been presented with facts?
Now your trying to rationalize it to make it conform to your worldview instead of transforming your worldview to conform with truth.

You folks are just plain tickling me.
When you can't support your position then you resort to simple name calling. Great tactic!

LMAO.
First of all, Greek, I do not know. I am not interested in Christian scriptures as I am not Christian. I do know Hebrew though, as Jews pray in Hebrew, not a translation of Hebrew. Allow me to direct you to one of the better threads ......
Of course, I dfo not expect your minbd to be changed that your translations are not 100% accurate. But I will suggest to you what I suggest to many. Learn Hebrew. And ancient Greek as well, to cover the Christian scriptures.

Sorry, cheap shot. I still think public schools (properly overseen) have their place, though.

Out on the playground once, I saw a little boy whip it out, pee on a tree, and go right back to playing.... Of course ... what do you think trees are for?

Not to pick a nit, but that would assume that most ANY school, as long as it were expensive, would be superior.
That's just slick marketing for the blue-bloods.

That was a question.
No you have posted ONLY a quotation from Proverbs which does not speak of education beyond that of Judea of 800BC and not even really about that. It in no way speaks against schooling outside the home but just to the role of the parent within a family. Not one word is relevant to this issue. Moral guidance by the parents is important but equally important is that the parents recognize their limitations. Trying to apply the Bible to things it never was meant to be applied to is a disservice to the Book.
It is like claiming the Bible can teach you about Nuclear Physics.

Sorry, cheap shot. I still think public schools (properly overseen) have their place, though.
I would be the absolute last one to "force" parents to homeschool. My entire point in this thread is that public schools do not follow the outline of the Bible in regards to teaching children (as expressed both in Deuteronomy and Proverbs).
When parents are shown these scriptures then I often hear the tired phrase: "we need two incomes just to survive". That is not true in the vast majority of circumstances and is simply a diversionary tactic away from the true issues.
