That line in the article struck me the hardest. I have owned dogs all my life. Just because I haven't owned a pit bull does not mean I don't understand dog behavior.
I googled "Killed by _____" and used several dog breeds including Doberman, German Shepard, Labs etc. The only breed that returned PAGES of hits with people killed was the pit bull. Most of the other breeds didn't return a single hit with a human fatality.
If a conspiracy does exist against pit bulls, it is vast, huge and very organized.
Might it just be possible that only morons and thugs would feed and shelter these four-legged time bombs?

My husband would have this kind of 'dog alarm' if I'd let him! We live in Omaha though and by law we are only allowed two dogs. Neither of which can be a pit bull, Rottwieller or Canary Presario unless one keeps 100K worth of insurance on the dog's behavior.
It is true. I cannot cite statistical data because most of the data is flawed. Dog bite statistics are based off of emergency room/hospital visits. Small dogs on average do not cause a great enough injury to necessitate going to the hospital, but this does not mean they do not bite just as much. However, if you are looking for information on dog bite statistics - go to www.yahoo.com and search "dog bite statistics" - they say what the general consensus is - pitbulls and rottweilers are most likely to kill humans (because they are two of the most powerful dogs) when they attack, but any breed can be violent and dangerous if made that way.
I must have missed your solution to the problem of Pit Bulls killing HUMAN BEINGS, since you believe the dogs are harmless.
And that Pomeranian story is a red-herring. Its a one in a million and there are THOUSANDS of the "pit bull kills unlucky human" stories.

Neither can a Pitbull if it is supervised and trained. Again, have you ever been watching a dog show where the terrier group came out and the American Staffordshire Terrier started to attack anything. NO, because the handler, breeder, and owner are all responsible, intelligent human beings, which in turn creates an intelligent and responsible dog.

I guess the solution should be another department in the federal government, maybe even a cabinet level position, the Secretary of Dangerous Dogs. He could advise the President of APBT attacks, but ignore all the other dog breeds because they aren't dangerous.

I didn't say it was the child's fault in this particular instance...or anyone's fault for that matter. On the other hand, I have seen children pull the dog's tail and the parents don't reprimand -- they think it's cute. It's cute...till the dog bites or otherwise harms the child.

Please, let's not overstate the problem. The actual number of people killed from attacks by all breeds of dog every year numbers in the tens. This is not to say that this incident isn't a terrible tragedy for the family, of course it is. But if people go around repeating the rumor that there are thousands and thousands of "pit bull kills unlucky human" stories, pretty soon people will demand that some breeds should be outlawed and Congress is going to want to get involved, etc, etc.
