Theresa Marie Schindler... May Daily Thread 2005 CALL TO ACTION: Our Fight for Justice Continues
Various Sources ^ | April 3, 2005 | floriduh voter

Freeper friends, Terri's Memorial Service is this coming Tuesday night in Gulfport, Florida. Please check and see if www.baynews9.com will carry it on the internet.

I'm still sad and in disbelief that the rescue fell apart. It was on it's way. We were waiting there for ambulances but instead two Sheriff's cruisers arrived.

There's much work to do. There are many work groups here carrying on for Terri.

The April Daily Thread as before will be a meeting place, a news digest and even in the midst of sorrow, a place to make friends.

I want to thank everyone who did everything humanly possible for Terri and her family. Terri's safe now from a room with the blinds closed, strange people and armed guards. She'd still be here if it wasn't for judicial despots who it appears have never read the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. or Florida Constitution.

Freepers, Republicans and Democrats alike voted against Terri or didn't do enough to save her from Judge Greer.

I'd like to thank Ralph Nader, David Boies, Joe Lieberman and Wesley Smith, Phd, author of Forced Exit.

I have disdain for the Naughty Nine Republicans in the Florida Senate who vote "No" which barred Terri from legislative relief. The GOP House Members who voted "No" on Terri, shame on them too.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE AGENDA AND WHO IS IN CHARGE? I'm afraid that Judge George Greer is in charge - of everything.

PLEASE HELP FLORIDA... CALL YOUR SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN/WOMEN.

HELP US. We feel stranded by tyranny today, but Florida is ripe for change. We will demand it together as Americans.

Thanks, FV

Thanks for the photo of Terri's parents. Glenn Beck had trouble speaking because he kept tearing up. He's never at a loss for words but it was very sad in there.

Everyone in that Chapel I believe was thinking "never again."

Pamela Hennessey spoke and thanked Terri for helping her to grow up and for all the many new friends Terri brought to her. I can relate.

Now they're saying that DeLay is tied to a "Russian lobby." It won't be pretty, and he had better fight hard if he expects to survive the coming attacks.

Thank you, for posting the video tribute. It tore my heart out. Towards the end they showed a cross with the words "Father forgive them for they know not what they do".
I think that says it all. We must never forget and we must do everything in our power to keep this from happening again.

Hundreds Gather to Remember Terri Schiavo

Wednesday April 6, 2005 1:46 AM

By MITCH STACY

Associated Press Writer

GULFPORT, Fla. (AP) - Hundreds of mourners gathered Tuesday to remember Terri Schiavo at a funeral Mass arranged by her parents, while her husband held on to her cremated remains and planned a separate service.

The woman's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, sat in the front row of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, joined by their two other grown children. Outside, mourners sat in folding chairs or stood as the service was relayed on loudspeakers. At least 800 people attended.

``She showed us how to live. She showed us the gift of life and how we should share it,'' the Rev. Thaddeus Malanowski said. He gave Schiavo last rites before she died Thursday.

A table beside the altar held a photo of Schiavo taken in the 1980s before she suffered severe brain damage, one of the pictures widely shown in the last days of the protracted right-to-die case. A photo and gold bust of Pope John Paul II were also on the table.

Schiavo's parents had opposed her cremation and hoped to bury her in their adopted state of Florida.

But her husband, Michael Schiavo, ordered her cremation and said her ashes would be buried in his family's plot in Pennsylvania, the state where Terri Schiavo grew up and where the couple met.

Michael Schiavo has not said when his memorial service will be held, but is under a court order to notify the parents of his plans. Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, did not return a call Tuesday for comment.

The 41-year-old brain-damaged woman died Thursday after a long, bitter legal battle between her husband and parents.

Court-appointed doctors said she was in a persistent vegetative state, and Michael Schiavo said his wife would not want to be kept alive artificially.

Her parents doubted she had such end-of-life wishes and disputed she was in a persistent vegetative state.

The dramatic case reached all the way to Congress, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Vatican and White House in recent weeks as the Schindlers tried to block the court order that allowed Michael Schiavo to remove the feeding tube.

The Schindlers had asked a judge to allow her body to remain intact and have her buried in Florida so they can visit the grave. But a judge refused to intervene.

FV SAYS: I deleted the last paragraph which was false so the above is an excerpt. The service was more moving than Mitch Stacy made it out to be. Maybe he was stuck outside.

In my opinion, Tom DeLAY is the only politician, that is standing firm. Sean Hannity and Laura Ingrham are the two talk show hosts that are staying strong right now on her case.

The National Ledger

April 05, 2005 Parents, Hundreds of Supporters Mourn Terri Schiavo at Mass

Bob and Mary Schindler held a mass on Tuesday night to mourn the passing of their daughter Terri Schiavo. They were joined by their other children, Bobby Schindler and Suzanne Vitadamo and "at least 800 supporters." The mass was held in Gulfport, Fla.

The AP reports that a table beside the altar held a photo of Schiavo taken in the 1980s before she suffered brain damage, and notes that it was one of the pictures that was shown frequently on television and in newspapers across the nation.

A photo and gold bust of Pope John Paul II were also on the table.

In his sermon, the Rev. Frank Pavone urged mourners to keep striving for a culture of life. "God calls us to go forth from this place to work together, to preach and witness together so what happened in this tragic case will never happen again," said Pavone.

Some of the overflow crowd had to sit outside in folding chairs and listen to the mass over a loudspeaker system.

Terri Schiavo was cremated shortly after a state required autopsy after her death last week. The Schindlers are still uncertain as to the exact time and location of where Terri's ashes will finally rest. Michael Schiavo, her husband at the time of her collapse, has control of the ashes but has been ordered by a court to inform the parents of his burial plans for Terri.

Terri Schiavo passed away on March 31, thirteen days after her feeding tube was removed.

Feminists for Life Honors the Life of Terri Schindler-Schiavo
http://www.feministsforlife.org/news/HonorTerri.htm

Feminists for Life expresses our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Terri Schindler-Schiavo on her tragic passing. We extend our deep regrets to all who worked to save Terri's life.

Her gentle and joyful spirit, though impaired and imperfect, touched many hearts. She reminded us that life is a precious and fragile gift that needs to be respected and protected--sometimes through great and heroic efforts. We mourn Terri's passing with deep sadness. Patricia Heaton, honorary Co-Chair of Feminists for Life, joins us in saying that "We have to honor her, and honor her life."

It is our hope that Terri will be remembered as a remarkable woman with an undeniable strength to live despite tremendous odds. We will honor her as we advocate for greater protection for the disabled and oppose increasing moves to deny any individual their right to life based on a quality of life judgment.

We are concerned that Terri did not receive justice. She never had an independent attorney who was solely concerned for her interests. Her statements to family and friends prior to her collapse about wanting a divorce were not considered pertinent. There was conflict between her husband and her family and friends as to what she would have really wanted.

Let Terri's case motivate us to make our end of life wishes known to family and friends. It is so important that you write out your wishes and review them with your loved ones and doctors. Please carefully review the documents you sign to be sure they reflect your deeply held pro-life convictions. If you need guidance, National Right to Life's "Will to Live" (http://www.nrlc.org/euthanasia/willtolive/) may be a good place to start.

In honor of Terri's life and the fight to save her, let us prepare ourselves and those we love with a "Will to Live" and recommit our lives to protecting the weak and vulnerable.

Serrin M. Foster
President

... along with so many others, like you! I am so thankful not to be mourning alone. I'd just rather not be mourning . . . . This is so wrong, it's as if the whole world is wrong. Like there's some awful alternate universe or something. This is still the same wonderful creation God spoke into existence . . . but with the specter of death, destruction, chaos, mayhem much more evident now than in the past.

In the past, I was grieved by evil and wrong. But at least it seemed as if there were "good guys" trying to intervene to alleviate suffering and destruction.

Now . . . Now the richest country on earth (in so many ways!) has seen fit to deny food and drink to one of its dependent citizens, and we hear that it is happening all the time, and "who would pay for or care for all these people, anyway?".

GREAT information and a great post. Thank you.

Many people who have ruled out feeding tubes for themselves may one day find themselves in the situation of the woman you describe. For that reason, present oral wishes from the patient should supercede past written directives. One would think that would be common sense. Today's courts are sorely lacking in this regard. The courts denied that poor woman food when she asked. Ridiculous that it even had to be taken to court.

Such horror stories are becoming far more common.

This is disgusting. I hope the Republicans stand behind him. They are often not very good at backing each other when they get attacked.

This calls for more phone calls to our reps and the White House.
