Terri Schiavo Cremated Amid Family Feud
Saturday, April 02, 2005
TAMPA, Fla. Terri Schiavo's body was cremated Saturday as disagreements continued between her husband and her parents, who were unable to have their own independent expert observe her autopsy.
The cremation was carried out according to a court order issued Tuesday establishing that Michael Schiavo () had the right to make such decisions, said his lawyer, George Felos. He said plans for burying her ashes in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, had not yet been completed.
Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had wanted to bury their daughter in Pinellas County so they could visit her grave.
Terri Schiavo, 41, died Thursday after the removal of the feeding tube that had kept her alive since 1990, when she suffered brain damage that court-appointed doctors determined had placed her in a persistent vegetative state (). Her parents had fought in court to keep her alive, disputing the doctors' opinions and saying there was hope of improvement.
It is disgusting. He's a vile person.
Why didn't Jeb do anything
You tell me why.
That is a stupid response.
The responses come from the pain, they are no co-existant and separate from the pain
This reminds me of the story of the attorney that the brother of terri was not allowed in the room at her death because her husband wanted her to have a peaceful death. They were playing soft music etc.
Think about this statement... a woman they claim as having no organized thought needed a "quite peaceful environment? " Up to that moment we were told she had no thoughts only instinctive movements ...but suddenly she could be disturbed by noise or soothed by music? Listen to the attorney use of feeling words he used to describe her ... " Terri is more beautiful and peaceful then we have ever seen her"
That is what we say of the corpse in a casket for the family, and here he uses the words for the woman fighting to live
Suddenly the "vegetable " could be be disturbed, she could be upset'
What wonderful caring people those death folks are. The staged picture of her death chamber , with a memorial of terri on the table and the statue of an angel.. If people believe that was true they are too dumb to live and maybe they are the next target
'To be starved and immediately cremated in order to destroy all evidence!'
Uh, we weren't talking about Terri.
You really should learn to read threads before you accuse people of disrupting them.

I don't. Or else he wouldn't have banned any later video tapes of her. The physician/hospital reports on how her multiple bone fractures occurred, when and where, would not have been sealed by Judge Greer.
Medical science makes strides in treatment every day. Michael, being a registered nurse, knows that.
According to Florida law, an autopsy was REQUIRED if the body was going to be cremeated. This was discovered on FR two days before MS indicated he wanted it done to clear his name.
In other words, when he started insisting he wanted her cremated, he didn't have a CHOICE.
Sorry, Maine-ah. Should have read further down the posts before hitting reply. I see others have already pointed this out. Didn't mean to gang up on you :)
Nice to see that "innocent until proven guilty" is alive and well on Free Republic.
Sworn statements aren't "gossip mongering," so I know you aren't talking about the allegations of bad behavior by Terri's HINO in the Iyer or Shook affidavits. So then, what "gossip mongering" are you referring to?
None of us will ever know exactly what happened to Terri. But unlike some people, I refuse to blindly accept certain testimony or accounts of past events as factual just because a judge rubber-stamped the ones that supported his conclusion and rejected conflicting statements that contradict him.
It sickens me. I'm embarrassed for nation-of-laws and liberty-loving conservatives everywhere.
Whose "liberty" was endangered by the attempts to reattach her feeding tube? Terri's? It is to laugh.
This is a nation of laws, indeed. There is a problem in this country with judges who shred the will of the people with badly-founded opinions that new laws are unconstitutional. I am normally against legislation that has only one person as its focus (see: Morgan, Dr. Elizabeth), but in this case, it was in order, IMHO. It was a noble attempt. To paraphrase Oliver Twist: If the law, as the judicial activists insist it be enforced, "is an ass," it deserves to be kicked!
Learned something from the Klintoons and the Kennedy's...eh?
please explain.
And whom, praytell, would be "a balanced source?" Michael Schiavo, who wanted Terri to expire of a urinary infection after slapping a "do not resusitate" order before informing her parents? George "Death Process" Felos, the ghoulish attorney who saw so much beauty in a dying woman? Judge Greer, who decided that based on two or three conversations witnessed only by the man who wanted to put Terri to death, that she should indeed die?
Michael Schiavo, if you want to put the very best face on him, had given up hope of any type of recovery for Terri. Is that a reason to deny her parents the chance to continue to hope for a "miracle?" Read the transcripts of Schiavo's interviews, especially with Larry King. With George "Dying Chicks are Hot!" Felos by his side, he doesn't even entertain the possibility that a miracle could occur. He was singularly focused on her death ASAP.
BTW - you wrote "The 'Schindler's'." What's with the scare quotes? They aren't really the Schindlers? They're impostors?
He repeatedly refers to her "heart attack". This is incorrect. She was diagnosed as someone with a "cardiac arrest" which is different.
So Sean's not a doctor. Are you telling me this is a distinction with a difference, more egregious than the differences between being severely brain-damaged, in a persistent vegetative state, and being comatose? Or of having a feeding tube or being on "life support", as that infamous ABC News poll said? Get real.
He repeatedly refers to the bone scan without qualification and while implying that the causes were do to some nefarious actions by MS. He does not include the questionable responses by Dr. Walker when under cross examination and when confronted by different findings from other doctors.
I haven't read the court documents with cross examination of the docs who did the bone scan -- have you? Do us all a favor and link it.
You have read them, haven't you?
MS will not allow an autopsy...MS will allow an autopsy because he has to. Another rumor shot down.
Felos The Ghoul made an announcement that Schiavo REQUESTED an autopsy when in fact it was required. Why so late in the game did Felos/Schiavo address the terms of her corpse with all the "rumors" of delivery from the hospice to the crematorium?
And like it or not, cremating Terri's body does eliminate the possibility that her body might be exhumed, something that someone suspected of spousal abuse would fear. This is not to say that Schiavo's actions were out of fear of being proven responsible for Terri's condition, but you have to admit that since getting the lawsuit money, he wasn't acting any differently than someone who did.
Now, before accusing me of being unfair to Schiavo, consider what you wrote about Carla Iyer, whom you referred to as "Lyer":
If MS got them "into trouble" because he didn't like what they were doing (several Dr's alluded to the aggressiveness and strident way he reacted when he thought the caregivers weren't doing their job properly) what better way to extract revenge than to bad mouth him?Look at Carla Lyer. She doesn't mention the possible shots of insulin and needles in the trashcan in her affidavit, but as soon as she's given a mic. or face time on TV her memory is crystal clear on the matter.
There was an incident involving Terri and mysterious needle marks a couple of years back. Schiavo accused the Schindlers of funny business. And Iyer's got nothing to gain from this. She is gainfully employed as a nurse after her stint as a nurse's assistant at the hospice, and she is subject to a slander suit if she is lying.
One of the reasons this situation gripped the public so much was because it's polarizing. There are questions to be asked of the other side regardless on whose you fall on. I fell on the side of Terri's being allowed to live rather than allow her to be terminated by a husband who went back on both his marriage vow and his promise to see her through to her natural death.
