ABC Radio News began their top of the hour broadcast with a clip of the chanting of the Litany of Loreto. Wonderful!

Thank you Mineral Man, you'd make a great Catholic by the way, if you were to ever change your mind... :-)

Let me explain intercessory prayer in the simplest way possible

That was very simple indeed! :-)

It was here that the pope developed his oft-repeated chestnut that the only acceptable act of sex is one intended for the creation of a child.

Clearly, this author has not read the book at all.

So those past childbearing age are not allowed to hav sex? I don't think so!
Or else my husband and I are in a whole lot of trouble!

"But Jesus gave her to the care of John as his "mother", to care for her as Jewish custom dictated. Not as the mother of Christians - that concept is unsupported and faulty."

Would Jesus make such a mundane charge from the cross as he approached death? He said words to the effect of "Son, behold your Mother; Mother, behold your Son" from the Cross. The words were recorded in the Gospels, which generally are silent on the mundane day-to-day activities of Jesus and the Apostles. The more expansive interpretation is a better reading.

Wow. That was absolutely the best explanation I've ever read on prayer to the saints, Mary, etc.

Thank you so much for posting.

"Thank you Mineral Man, you'd make a great Catholic by the way, if you were to ever change your mind... :-)"

Thanks. Not much chance of that, though.

I'm just really tired of every butthead out there who thinks he/she can pop into these threads and take a dump. The Pope represents the religious belief of a huge portion of the Christians on this planet. On that basis alone, he deserves the respect of every thinking person.

I am just so weary of the endless stream of negativity concerning people's beliefs. It seems like there are so many folks who believe that they alone have a lock on truth, and that everyone else is evil.

Fie upon them! I'm glad to see the moderators putting a stop to such nonsense.

This Pope stood like a rock against Communism. He was one of the reasons for the fall of the Evil Empire.

I agree. As a Protestant myself there is a lot I am thankful for in JPII. His genuinely loving stances on human dignity, human freedom, the sanctity of human life, just three off the top of my head.

I am Catholic too and I am sad at the Holy Father's demise as well.

I am not Roman Catholic, just an ordinary Protestant. But one morning I was at Saint Peter's in the Vatican along with about a million others seeing the Pope off to yet another whirlwind tour. As his car went by and he wished us all well there was a spirit that accompanied him; it wasn't just a man that went by. The man is mortal and will be mised. The Pope is eternal.
