Okay, well, since the other thread is deleted, I will have to make a comment here.

Don't you see a difference between asking a friend to pray for you and asking a dead person to do so?

Unless Mary is sipping tea in your living room, you can't talk to her directly. And, since only Christ is a mediator, any petitions asking Mary to pray for you would not be heard by her since she can't hear them. No dead person can hear your prayers. Therefore, you can't ask them to pray for you since they won't hear it.

There is a big difference between asking a living person to pray for you and a dead person. One can hear and intercede for you by praying to the one true mediator Jesus Christ, and one can't because their spirit is in heaven unable to respond to your prayers because they are not designated to do so.

Because you say so? I just feel sorry for you - not because you don't believe as Catholics believe - but that you contradict us with almost zero theological understanding of the Bible you quote.

And now that I said that, I will shut up regarding Catholic doctrine and only talk about the Pope's situation today.

Could you restore the Catholic doctrine thread so the flame-throwing debates don't take place?

What is the source of a person's life? Is it their body or soul? When their body dies, what happens to their soul? If their soul still "lives", how are they really "dead?"

Any chance of getting you to table this discussion until later?

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

I beg your pardon, my apologies. Your response sounded protestant.

So shoot me.

Scripture says we should be subject to authorities. In this forum those authorities include the moderators. This is not your house. You are not representing Jesus here with that attitude.

The Holy Father, in my view, would not want us to grieve - he is going to God, to Christ, and Our Lady. He was a man of humour and warmth as well as love and piety - Sky News related a story in which a group of children was taken to meet the Holy Father. Seeing that the children were nervous, apparently the Holy Father told them, "Now don't be nervous, think of yourselves as being in your father's house." The children visibly relaxed after these words. Then the Holy Father added with a smile, "But don't wipe your noses on the walls like you might at home."

Regards, Ivan

The scroller is back on, and they are still saying the Vatican denies the death of the Pope.

My mother told me that the nuns in her Catholic school (back in the 30's and early 40's) forbid them to ever play April fools jokes because it was an insult to Our Lord. It would be in imitation of those who blindfolded Our Lord, struck him and spit on him, asking him to tell who did it.

Now don't get me wrong, this is not nor ever was official Catholic teaching to my knowledge, but interesting no?

that concept is unsupported and faulty. broad statements like that are not helpful here. actually the majority of christians in the world do support that concept - it's just that there are an aweful lot that do not as well.
