After an extraordinarily difficult and tragic journey, Terri Schiavo is at rest. Columba and I offer our condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Schindler, Bobby Schindler, Suzanne Vitadamo and to all those who offered their prayers and support to Terris family over these past weeks, months and years. These prayers were not in vain.
Many across our state and around the world are deeply grieved by the way Terri died. I feel that grief very sharply as well. I remain convinced, however, that Terris death is a window through which we can see the many issues left unresolved in our families and in our society. For that, we can be thankful for all that the life of Terri Schiavo has taught us.
I still firmly believe that human life is a gift and a mystery, and that its mystery is most evident at its beginning and ending. May all of us whose hearts were moved during the life of Terri Schiavo grow in wisdom at its ending.

Jeb,
"Thanks" for doing the bare minimum to save Terri, and for handing away your powers as elected chief executive of Florida to the over-grown judiciary.
A strong example from you, asserting your legal supremacy to administer Florida government and its employees, would have set a great example. You are unlikely to have another similar chance.
Terri thanks you too, I am sure.

The lamentable facts are that the Bush brothers, and the "Governor" in particular, just sat on their asses and let this killing of an innnocent woman occur on their watch without doing anything more than talking blathering bulls**t legalese. You just proved my arguments.

"thats just silly . It was wrong but not murder."
You're right; it wasn't murder; they just denied Terri food and water to the point of killing her. It wasn't starvation; they just denied Terri water and nutrients.
Just so long as it wasn't murder or starvation.
Thanks for bringing that to our attention. How SILLY of us.
For such an insightful post that summons forth a great reservoir of deep reflection, you are obviously destined to become one of the great thinkers here at FR.

Show me one? Even the none-legal minds - our favorite radio hosts... Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, etc... all said he was powerless.... please..

Get serious!!! With all the vast criminal activities underlying the brazen attempted murder of Terri (e.g., transferring her to the six month maximum hospice, a care facility for dying killing people, and then holding her there for FIVE YEARS while sticking it to Medicare for her care, is grossly illegal) !!!You had it right except for that one minor sticking point!

Stop thinking with your emotions and look at reality... REALITY!! There was a court order in place.. right or wrong it was there... Jeb would have been arrested... Even if he was arrested for a total of 1 second, his political future is dead... over...
As sad as it sounds he isnt going to have himself handcuffed and thrown into the clink to start a state crisis... Even if every cop that arrested him and the judge were later fired for what they did, he was still arrested.
With this (in my opinion) wrong court order in place, Jeb CANNOT stand there and say "Im the Gov, you cant arrest me... Im a equal branch of government". The cops would laugh and throw him in the back of the car.
Some of you just blurt sh*t out as if you know what your talking about... "Send in the national Guard", etc etc.. Give me a break people... Stop blameing the Bush's for something that was not there fault... Blame her as*hole husband.... so many of you are pointing fingers in the wrong direction..

You took the words right out of my mouth. Good thing, too, because you put it more succinctly than I ever could have.
The only point where we might disagree is in that ridiculous order by Greer that denied anyone from trying to nourish and hydrate Terri by "natural" means. That is the link in the chain that I can't be convinced could be seen (by any rational person) as "lawful" never mind humane.

I NEVER bought into that "compassionate Conservative" garbage, so don't blame me.
So, you'd make a deal with the devil, would you? That's precisely what the Schindlers did and it got them NOTHING.
To: agrace
Maybe he can work on rescinding that law. I hope so.

You're right: if they can't pay, then starve them to death.
Another Big-Tent, New Tone, compassionate conservative I see.
Heck, when uninsured people come into ER, we should just start asphyxiating them on the spot; think of the billions we would save right there?

I don't share your negative view of our government. Besides, if what you say is true, I certainly am not going to ever move to Florida or any of those states that seem to be popular retirement states. I live in Virginia and I don't see that kind of thing going on here. We are very conservative here.

Hmmmmm. Well, then, if I were an elderly retired person, I would get the heck out of Florida if they don't change that blasted law!

Actually that post was a joke; I could care less what you see as the "solution". Many of you are advocating the Felos "Solution" which is eerily similar to the "Final" one.

I'd certainly move out of Florida in a hurry if I didn't trust my husband or if my heirs were up to their necks in credit card debt - especially if I had a disability.
To: streetpreacher
You forget that I know you and know that it wasn't really a "joke" at all, even though you added the /sarcasm.
Nowhere, not on any thread on FR, will you find me advocating anything;let alone euthanasia and/or the removal of the feeding tube.So take your hair shirt, your THE END OF THE WORD IS NIGH placard, and the rest of your smarmy posts and go try to shred someone else.
To: Real Cynic No More
So basically, the Democrats' "success" is measured in terms of opposing things that Republicans are for, not in actually passing in any of their own ideas into law. I'll give you that; they are pretty successful at being a royal pain in the ___.
