Statement by Governor Jeb Bush regarding the death of Terri Schiavo
Tampa Bay's 10 News ^ | 3/31/05 | Governor Jeb Bush

Posted on 03/31/2005 7:05:48 PM PST by wagglebee

“After an extraordinarily difficult and tragic journey, Terri Schiavo is at rest. Columba and I offer our condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Schindler, Bobby Schindler, Suzanne Vitadamo and to all those who offered their prayers and support to Terri’s family over these past weeks, months and years. These prayers were not in vain.

“Many across our state and around the world are deeply grieved by the way Terri died. I feel that grief very sharply as well. I remain convinced, however, that Terri’s death is a window through which we can see the many issues left unresolved in our families and in our society. For that, we can be thankful for all that the life of Terri Schiavo has taught us.

“I still firmly believe that human life is a gift and a mystery, and that its mystery is most evident at its beginning and ending. May all of us whose hearts were moved during the life of Terri Schiavo grow in wisdom at its ending.”

He had to hold his nose and choose to follow the "law".

Thank you Jeb Bush for doing what you could to stand up for the life of an innocent woman with a beautiful smile when so many others couldn't wait for her demise.

OK, Governor, let me bring something else to your attention. While you were wrapped up with the Schiavo issue a nine year old girl was abducted by a man that your penal system paroled. He was a registered sex offender but that didn't stop your justice system from losing track of him. He kidnapped the girl, held her for a couple of days, and murdered her just a few hundred yards from her own bedroom. So my question is what do you have to say to Jessica's family and now that Terri Schiavo has been laid to rest do you suppose you can spare the time to come up with some fixes for your broken down justice system that might help prevent this from happening again? Please?

I love how some of you just throw the Bush's overboard. The best legal minds in the world said he was powerless, period end of story.. Im more likely to believe a world class legal mind then pissed off people at freerepublic. If Jeb could do it, he would have.

He didn't just choose to "follow the law" -- he's the one who signed the damn thing into law.

Go back and do some research on the basic legal premise of Michael Schiavo's case -- that under Florida law a feeding tube is considered an "extraordinary form of medical treatment" that does not have to be maintained for all patients. Most people are shocked to learn that Jeb Bush himself is the one who signed this statute into law.

One hopes that Mr. Bush is like Robert the Bruce who first supported then later left Braveheart on the killing field -- but then after hardships and struggle regained a good name and victory.

Right now the tide is massively out under his boat, by his own inaction. A very brave heart lies dead.

See #10. Anyone who thinks Jeb Bush was just a helpless bystander in this case is delusional.

Statement of Pontius Pilate, AD 30--

“After an extraordinarily difficult and tragic journey, Jesus of Nazareth is at rest. Columba and I offer our condolences to his mother, and to all those who offered their prayers and support to his family over these past weeks, months and years.

“Many across our state and around the world are deeply grieved by the way Jesus died. I feel that grief very sharply as well. I remain convinced, however, that Jesus' death is a window through which we can see the many issues left unresolved in our families and in our society. For that, we can be thankful for all that the life of Jesus of Nazareth has taught us.

"I should like particularly to underline how the administration of water and food, even when provided by artificial means, always represents a natural means of preserving life, not a medical act. Its use, furthermore, should be considered, in principle, ordinary and proportionate, and as such morally obligatory."

--- Pope John Paul II

She wasn't even allowed food or drink by mouth and he stood by and allowed this to happen. Not an honorable man in my book.

Not an honorable man in my book.

Or a man now realizing his horrible mistake.

Possibly Jeb Bush will take this opportunity to persue a line of business more fitting with his personality. I'd suggest he'd make a fine military officer for the country of France.

"...that under Florida law a feeding tube is considered an "extraordinary form of medical treatment"..."

I think the legal term that is used if 'artificial' not 'extraordinary'.
