Pa. College Professor Arrested at Schiavo Hospice
NEPA News and AP ^ | March 29, 2005 | AP

A professor at a Bible college near Scranton, Pa., was arrested Tuesday as he tried to storm into the hospice caring for Terri Schiavo.

Dow Pursley, 56, was zapped with a Taser stun gun and tackled to the ground by officers before he reached the door, Pinellas Park police said. He became the 47th protester arrested.

Pursley, who is on the faculty of the Baptist Bible College & Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa., had two bottles of water with him, police said. He was charged with attempted burglary and resisting arrest.

Baptist Bible College officials said in a written statement that Pursley was not acting on the school's behalf and had traveled to Florida on his personal time.

"He is a dedicated man with strong beliefs and God-given convictions," the statement said.

Pursley is the clinical director of counseling programs for the theological college's graduate school. He also helps oversee a campus clinic that offers psychological counseling based on biblical teaching.

Baptist Bible College spokesman Mark Robbins said that while the college "believes in the sanctity of life," it has not taken an official position on the Schiavo case.

Doctors said that Schiavo, 41, would probably die within a week or two after the tube was removed on March 18. She suffered catastrophic brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped for several minutes because of a chemical imbalance.

If you're a moslem, then you should speak while you have our attention. :)

Here is perhaps the "great sadness" and "malaise" of the secrets of Fatima: there are probably more priests in jail now for aggravated rape and sodomy (or under suspension) than are on the frontlines defending innocent life.

You make an excellent point.

But where are the Catholic bishops?

They are hiding because they are afraid of the Scientologists.

We are in the midst of the Divine Mercy novena. On Terri's behalf, let us pray, "Jesus, I trust in you!"

Jezu, ufam tobie!

These guys coming down here need to realize that these police officers work in a county where most of the population is armed...legally, and a high percentage of locals have CCW.

Their attitude toward how they approach their jobs is reflected in the reality that guns are still a part of life here and most people have em..

Sounds like a feeble excuse to me...Or are you law abiding, gun totin' Floridians just itching for a gun-fight, with anyone???Are you saying you guys make the cops nervous???

It fills me with deep sadness to confess that I suspect many of the current bishops are a little to in with the anti-Catholic secret societies, sodomites, PC liberals, and country club and resort cruise set to attend to their grave moral and sacramental duties. Unfortunately, Florida in itself attracts those who already have a weakness for easy living. I CANNOT EXPLAIN why the local bishop together with many priests did not show up to give Terri Holy Communion and food and water on Easter Sunday. That does not seem to conform with what we WERE TAUGHT about the "marks of the church" and of the holy priesthood of God. God Help us!

Everyone not there should pray vigilantly and attend to Adoration and Reparation. This is a HORRIBLE moral tragedy for the whole country. I grieve deeply for my country over the very grave implications of this very sad moment.

Not nearly as nervous as they'd be in Detroit, I'd imagine.

I have an insight into a core message of Christianity. Without beginning a flame war here/now (which you can take up with me later, when you like)...

Christ endured death willingly, without kowtowing to the powers that threatened him. That is STOICISM.

As Christians we are first of all called to be stoic, to do the right thing always, and to trust in God that the eventual outcome will be good. And we look to Christ's example.

In short, we are to defend Terri cheerfully, with determination, and take the consequences.

I knew there was a reason I was born here.

It's not an insult. In Catholic circles throughout the US, Florida is a vacation spot. Many of the queers among the clergy frequent South Beach and Key West for non-Christian and non-religious purposes. Perhaps it has something to do with the sunshine. The Kennedys party in West Palm Beach, yes? I seem to recall William Kennedy Smith having some legal difficulties there a while back. Was that perhaps also during the Easter season?

I don't see anything here that I disagree with.

I recommend that all retirees move to Texas.

Then they won't have to worry about family making medical decisions for them when they are unable. The Doctors decide when to pull the plug there.

What are the laws in your State?

Can any of you make sense of this? Are Catholics the only ones who think Florida is a vacation spot?

The Kennedys party in West Palm Beach, yes?

Not since Rush bought their compound.

I can't speak for catholics. I'm a Baptist, and for vacation we all go to Bible Camp. We wouldn't be caught dead in a place like Florida. I hear that people play cards, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, and dance in Florida...

(Gives me the heeby-jeebies just thinking about it)

Sink, I suspect that you are not a real Catholic. Please inform yourself of basic social mores of bourgeois Catholics (including clergy) who have relocated to Florida.
As a former senior administrator of a Jesuit university, I am personally VERY FAMILIAR with Catholics of low moral character among the clergy who seek assignments in resort locations.

I dunno. I'm Lutheran, and we never discussed Florida as the top vacation spot.

When you say "VERY FAMILIAR"... I'm not really sure that I, or anyone else, want any actual details on that, so thanks in advance for not going into detail.

Sink, I suspect that you are not a real Catholic.

It says, right here on my very own baptismal certificate, that I'm a REAL CATHOLIC.

In fact, those very words are right here..... REAL CATHOLIC.
