Woman who found finger at Wendy's files claim against franchise

A woman who bit down on a partial finger served in a bowl of chili at a Wendy's restaurant in California said she was disgusted by the experience while her attorney has filed a claim with the franchise owner.

Anna Ayala, 39, of Las Vegas, was dining at the Wendy's in San Jose, Calif., on March 22 when officials said she scooped up the inch-and-a-half long fingertip in a mouthful of chili.

"Just knowing that there was a human remain in my mouth ... it is disgusting. It is tearing me apart inside," Ayala told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Monday.

Yep, something isn't right here. The Wendy's in question has no employees missing any digits. The packing house that mixes the ingredients reports the same, no one missing fingers. So the question is; Who's missing a finger, and who put it in the chili? After checking on deranged prankster employees, I would think the gaze should be put squarely on the plaintive. But that's just me...

Accidents happen. Why does somebody always have to be entitled to money for them?

Don't go there...I'm the most Libertarian person I know. I just was getting at that out of all of these kinds of stories, this one sounded the most authentic.

Is the chili made at each individual restaurant, or is it shipped in from some big factory?

...in Saudi Arabia.

I don't think the finger came in with the meat. IIRC, Wendy's uses "overcooked" burger patties (the ones not built into sandwiches in a certain amount of time) to make the chili. Now, that chili spice and bean mixture - betcha that's pre-packaged.

I remember once going in to an Arby's for a roast beef sandwich, and the guy who cuts the thin slices of meat had a bandage on his finger!

Eww! I'm never eating out again!

The sauce and other spices are pre-packaged. The meat is actually leftover hamburger meat (this is why Wendy's is fresh while McD are under the warmer - they continuously have burgers on the grill at Wendy's and if no one buys them, they go to the Chili meat).

My guess is that the finger came prepackaged from the supplier. Why should this franchise lose his business for this incident? Maybe this woman should get something, but how much money would it take you to find a finger in your Chili?

The thing that is making me suspicious is that the finger is just too big. She says it was an inch-and-a-half piece...but didn't notice it until it was in her mouth?

Those spoons at Wendy's aren't even big enough to hold that.

"Unfortunately the lawyers are going to punish Wendy's into nonexistence."

I'm just glad Dave Thomas isn't around to see this. What a nice man and upstanding citizen he was. Rose above a cr@ppy childhood to become a success; a classic story:

Has anyone claimed to have a missing finger?

Maybe it was the owner, Dave's finger.. Did the courts rule that a finger in chili isn't against the law? I'm surprised this wasn't in Florida.

Did they ever find out just who, exactly, belongs to that fingertip?

It can't be THAT hard to figure out! Love to hear the story how she lost the finger.

After all, they order that food (chili) prepackaged, so it's not their fault.

Actually, they make it in the store, which is another thing which makes this claim seem suspicious.

Having spent some time in the food industry, the possibility of having a finger in the chili is truly remote. I suspect she put it there and will be sued by Wendy's.

Food processing is the domain of truly paranoid people. everything is tested, looked at, sealed, measured, etc.

This woman is in for a world of hurt.

THIS JUST IN: The finger is question has been determined to be a MIDDLE finger & now the amount has tripled. Not only did she get a finger in her chili, but it came with a nasty message.

Okay, this whole story is a nail-biter but lets knuckle down and eat our chili. Besides it's the best in town hands down.

Of course it is! What other chili can make the claim of being "finger lickin' good"?

"What about all the other people who ate the chili there around the same time? I'd be getting the freak out if I were one of those people.
Might even take down the name of her attorney . . ."

I was thinking the same thing. Surely, there was many people who ate chili that day at that restaurant? I love chili from Wendy's, but I have not stopped there since the day this was reported. This is so gross!!!

Is anyone else growing suspicious of this claim? I don't know...but something just don't smell right.

I am.

This needs to be investigated very carefully before Wendys rolls over and pays the claimant big money.
