Part 7 - EASTER SUNDAY -NO FOOD OR WATER 10-11TH DAYS- SHE'S FIGHTING TO LIVE [Schiavo]

After much hard work that has gone on for well over a year, it's been a week and 2 days since Terri has been without food and hydration.

Many asking the question how we could have become such a callous society as to deny a helpless human the basic necessity of food and water.

Terri's plight has brought to light many problems in the judicial system and opened our eyes to the fact that some laws need to be changed.

The work will continue to protect helpless individuals from suffering the same injustice as Terri.

JJ just said that today is the day that we have to get Terri food and water...a man on Linda Vester said it is unusual for someone to be alert and awake after this much time..so this is a good sign and more than likely because of our Lord Jesus!

Jesse Jackson joins family to call for "miracle" in Schiavo case

3/29/05

PINELLAS PARK - The Rev. Jesse Jackson became the latest political activist to insert himself in the Terri Schiavo battle, arriving at the brain-damaged woman's hospice on Tuesday to pray with her parents and call for political intervention.

The director of the Rainbow Coalition explained that he was visiting at the request of Bob and Mary Schindler, who are waging a high-profile fight with Terri's husband over their daughter's end-of-life wishes.

"This is one of the profound moral and ethical issues of our time, the saving of Terri's life. Today, we pray for a miracle," Jackson stated. "Religious leaders and political leaders must not betray her through silence. We must speak out."

The sight of the liberal activist alongside such conservative names as Randall Terry was likely to raise a few eyebrows, but it was unclear if the bipartisan effort would be enough to convince state lawmakers to intervene in the case.

Though he could not recall specifically whom he talked to, Jackson said he had called five state senators this morning in an effort to convince them to once again take up legislation that would allow Terri's life-sustaining feeding tube to be reinserted.

Terri has been in a persistent vegetative state since a 1990 heart attack. Her husband Michael says she would not want to live in such a condition, but her parents disagree. The Schindlers have fought a seven-year court battle to prevent the removal of her feeding tube, but after continuous court defeats at every level, their legal options have been exhausted.

Tuesday marks the 12th day that Terri has gone without food after the tube was removed by order of a Pinellas County judge. According to the family, her condition is deteriorating.

"She's failing. She still looks pretty darn good under the circumstances, but you can see the impact that 12 days without food is having on her," Bob Schindler told reporters. "We still have her. It's not too late to save her."

Walking hand-in-hand with Jackson, Mary Schindler visited the hospice for the first time in two days. She explained that visiting her daughter was becoming too difficult emotionally, but she thanked Jackson for his presence.

"I wanted Rev. Jackson here for moral support," she said. "He's very strong. He gives me strength, and I'm very glad that he's here supporting us."

In his comments, Jackson echoed the statements of the other activists and protestors who have flocked to the hospice from around the country in recent days. He conceded that there are times when "pulling the plug" is the right thing to do, such as in situations with failing cancer patients, but insisted that Terri did not fall into that category.

"This is a different situation. Without food or water for 12 days, there are vital signs. She is being starved to death. She is being dehydrated to death, and that's inhumane. It's immoral, and it's unnecessary," he said.

Meanwhile, police had one of their most startling confrontations yet with protestors at the hospice. One of the activists slipped through police lines and made it all the way to the front door of the building; police had to use Tasers to subdue him before placing him under arrest.

I AM real, Scoop.

I've been a staunch supporter of Terri and have made tens of calls and sent countless e-mails.

YOUR articles with YOUR permission were among those e-mails to hundreds of contacts.

There was NO need for YOU to bite me with your rudeness.

I'll repeat AGAIN.

I WILL NOT BASH the President.

JEB has the authority.

(And now, I'm done with this thread)

"Focus on the Family today was superb. They are saying that the law states that no disabled person can be refused water and food. Terri can be given food by mouth. ( and the argument, I MAY ADD, that Terri MIGHT choke to death, given by Michael, is hysterically funny since HE wants HER to die, right?) It is the LAW that Terri cannot be forbidden food or water. THEREFORE, we are asking everyone to call and tell the Governor to fulfill HIS responsibility in seeing that the law is FULFILLED, by allowing Terri to eat by mouth!!
Be polite......

BUMP Info.

I said that God's law is higher than man's law; plus, Gov. Bush would NOT be breaking man's law - he would be protecting the constitution.

Ping to Republics post # 1738 concerning Autopsy!

I'll add one more thing. The independant Doctor should not come from the state of Florida. We need a panel of people we trust to decide on the doctor. Not sure that I trust Jeb Bush at the moment.

I'd rather Gov JEB BUSH WOULD RESCUE TERRI RIGHT NOW.

Terri said --> WHERE THERE IS LIFE, * THERE IS HOPE~!!

Would we respect him for it? I would.

I certainly would. I've already let him know and other Republican leaders that it appears "they're looking at polls which don't look good. But Terris is emaciated."

How far will their excuses fly given that fact?

And this is not just about Terri (though we fight for her life); she is one of many Americans who will now have the "rule of law" and now, case law, on their side for their inhumane and barbaric execution.

You all helped keep these running posts on the high road-- they truly have been "The Best of Free Republic and its posters."

Thanks. That's quite a compliment. I'm sad to say that because of the unrelenting verbal attacks on this thread by those who disagree with our support of Terri, I'll be leaving FR after this is over.

it's everybody's problem.

Exactly. This is not about politics. This is about what is right, what is just, all that is good versus the evil in mankind. There is no middle ground. Unfortunately, those who have chosen poorly and side with the immoral and unjust, like Jeb, think there is.

MeekOneGOP has ping list for Floridians only, if anyone has pertinent info.

I don't think you would mind my posting this, without asking you first MeekOneGOP, but time is SHORT.

God bless Terri and her family, and God bless all of you.
