After Defeats Schiavo Parents Tell Supporters Go Home

Bob and Mary Schindler, both practicing Catholics, urged dozens of supporters gathered outside the Florida hospice where Schiavo is being cared for to go home for Easter.

"The family would request that everyone go home, be with your children, hold them close and share every moment you have with them," said Brother Paul O'Donnell, a Franciscan monk who is a spiritual adviser to the Schindlers.

It was not clear if the Schindlers had finally abandoned all legal avenues in their fight to restart their 41-year-old daughter's feeding, a cause that embroiled the Florida legislature, the U.S. Congress and President Bush.

Yes, that's a pretty close approximation of what's being said, only not nearly with that degree of civility. Mostly it's in a contemptuous tone of utter ridicule. They're easy enough to find just be searching on the Schiavo threads if you like. They're all over the place. I'm too upset tonight to go looking for them and reading them again.

Of course, there is always a danger of something going wrong!

But that doesn't forbid the possibility of action.

Right now, Terri Schiavo is in her last hours of life.
If she doesn't get water into her body soon, it will be too late.

Governor Bush needs to enforce the laws of the State of Florida, and defend its Constitution.

That is his right, and his SWORN AND SOLEMN DUTY.

If he refuses to act, he has disgraced his office.

Yes, they do. These laws never should have seen the light of day. We, as a people, really dropped the ball on this one, and ultimately, we are all to blame.

very good.....you seem to know more about this than the Pres, the Gov, and all the butt kissing attorneys.....how come they are not as smart or heroic as you??????.......or for that matter many here on FR who think they know the law and any legal precedence better than those involved?

I get the feeling that the only thing which would convince you that Terri deserves to live, would be a ruling from Judge Greer to that effect.

There are MANY such plausible legal pretexts on which the governor could take action. He has not, and inaction speaks volumes.

Yes, just an opinion. It seems that the people in Florida actually looking through the laws, trying to find a way to act have come up with exactly squat.

Sending the national guard in to attempt a rescue sets a very dangerous precedent. I also question the legality of such a move. It might seem like a good idea, but do we really want to go there?

well, yes it does......so we change the laws if possible, or do you have another solution......that is what some of us are writing about....not pro death for Terri, but anti anarchy, violence, and the insipid notion that the Bush's are cowards.......that argument will not fly with the American people which polls say about 65% think the tube should be removed....I hardly think these are all Dems or heathens

It really is sick and ghoulish, every day that goes by makes me more sick to my gut. That Felos press confab today was unbelievably appalling, to boast about Terri's "happy face" (I thought she couldn't react to things, but now she clearly is enjoying her death phase). I was at an Easter service tonight, and although the Lord is foremost and above all, I couldn't get the thought out of my head that this woman is being killed slowly as we all sit by. I'm not blaming W or Jeb, just saying how awful it is that we are here tonight.

I remember when everyone here thought Judge Bork had a brilliant legal mind. Now every plumber, engineer, and waitress on FreeRepublic thinks they know more about the law and the Constitution than he does, apparently, since he believes all the Bushes options have been exhausted.

An autopsy would might prove very useful. If it showed that her brain wasn't "liquified" as some attending physicians have said, it could be grounds for the "mother of all malpractice" lawsuits. But leaving that aside, if her brain wasn't damaged like so many "physicians" have claimed and judges blindly relied upon their testimony. The effects could be shattering. Some physicians should and would suffer deserved professional damage. I don't think it could be used against Michael Schiavo though, unfortunately. Unless, it could be argued that Michael's failure to allow therapy was abuse. I'm blatthering and need to shut up......

You're not blathering at all...you're disheartened, and frustrated, and like many of us, I suspect--trying to make sense out of a situation that has none.

You may not like it, but it's true. Legally, due to the way the laws in that state are, it's not murder.

However, from a moral standpoint it is murder. That's not being a politician, that is merely stating fact, frustrating as it may be.
