Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:55:28 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.

Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.

For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''

In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.

''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.

''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''

The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

"At the risk of sounding even more sarcastic: "Amen""

Other than jeer and sneer what more have you added to the discussion.

Then why doesn't Gov. Bush tell them "You work for me. You will not enforce that order. If you attempt to enforce that order, you will be placed on administrative leave pending termination for failure to follow my order"?

You're advocating that Jeb abuse his power. Deputy Fife's don't report to the Governor, and Governors can't order municipal authorities around like minions.

Sorry, but an elected pope, God's surrogate on Earth (for Catholics) leading a war against heretics, for example, is still a Christian, and no amount of denying that will change the fact...

What we have today is the Warm and Fuzzy Christianity in comparison. At one time, Christianity was dark and brutal... It's not a false proposition to say that organized religion in the past has made some truely horrendous mistakes. It's just fact.

Like I said, things are different now.

That's right. Okay, we'll use helicopters and hovercraft then. There'll be an aircraft carrier group right off the coast and we'll 'hover' directly out to it. Yee-hah! This will be bigger than when we used all those ships to find John Kennedy, Jr's plane off the coast of Martha's Vineyard!

"I am. We have judicial tyrants - who breakt the law - because elected officials are too cowardly to defend the law against the judicial tyrants. Jeb Bush is showing such cowardice - or excessive caution, to put it more generously. too bad Terri's paying with her life."

You do not like the anything about Bush to begin with, remember you oppose freeing those people in Iraq.

Electrolyte disorders following massive insulin overdose in a patient with type 2 diabetes.

Matsumura M, Nakashima A, Tofuku Y.

Department of Internal Medicine, Ishikawa-ken Saiseikai Kanazawa Hospital, Ishikawa.

We present a case of a 47-year-old man with Type 2 diabetes mellitus who attempted suicide with 2,100 U of insulin injected subcutaneously. Administration of dextrose intravenously was required to maintain the blood glucose concentration normally for 5 days. Moreover, hypokalemia, hypophosphatemia, and hypomagnesemia were also seen for 24 hours after insulin injection. The serum phosphorus and magnesium concentrations decreased to nadirs of 1.6 mg/dl and 1.6 mg/dl respectively 7 hours after insulin injection. Electrolyte disorders other than hypokalemia may be induced in hypoglycemic patients by massive insulin overdose.

man if that isn't a BS argument then I never heard a BS argument. I should not take the time to refute it since it is nothing but a hate Christan's argument.

Christians killing Christians over who was worshiping God the right wayProvide a specific example I can't read minds.

various inquisitionsunPC thought was a crime then just as it is today. Wrong then wrong today, however at the still the church was the state and it was the state not Christan dogma that should be blamed.

CrusadesWhen one considers that Islam had conquered move of the Christan world one sees the Crusades for what they were. Are war to defend the west from a militant Islam.

"expeditions" to the new worldWell, after the Spanish witnessed thousands of human sacrifices they concluded that perhaps the natives would benefit from receiving the word of God. could be they were correct.

I can do what ever I please and I PARDON that poster.

And for the record, my nic was chosen during X42's impeachment. It means that I didn't want him to be "pardoned" by the Senate. But as we all know, I did not get that wish.

And, I have yet to see anyone to refute what I have said about what would happen if Jeb defies the court. He will not be tried in court for that; rather they will have to ask the Legislature to impeach. And Jeb has clear Florida statute on that matter.

Even if Jeb were successfully impeached it would not matter since he would have obeyed God's word.
