Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:55:28 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.

Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.

For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''

In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.

''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.

''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''

The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

Acutally, this is kinda fascinating; I really didn't think people like that existed. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I think they mean well, but, wow.

Impeachment is the equivalent of indictment before a court. The House does that. The Senate votes whether to convict. In his defense, Bush can point out clear Florida statute that empowers him to act. The Legislature is no buddy buddy of the Florida court system, believe you me.

Here's an article on Greer. He's a Republican, was just recently re-elected. He's a Baptist, a member of a large Southern Baptist church in Clearwater.

Undoubtedly all that is true. Regardless he really screwed the pooch on his rulings. They are so consistently bad that I wonder if it incompetence or deliberate.

"You sure like to misconstrue things that other people say. I never stated that Jeb Bush was at the "front of the line" for anything. I said that he disobeyed God's word, just as I often do.

The only difference is that Jeb has God-given civil authority over the state of Florida and will have to answer to God regarding that authority."

Then stand down and let God take care of him.

Well, of course the expected response will be the old tired and trite "Well, they weren't really Christians" excuse... Which is a load of bunk. They were just Christians of a different time, is all.

From what I'm seeing both here, and on other places online, some of those types are back, and ready to kill innocents, in order to get at the ones they deem "guilty"...

Yeah, he's so Baptist that his church forced him to quit.

He'll be brought before a Judge, all right.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help us now.

I've been guilty of several shades of sarcasm during the course of these posts, but I wanted to tell you straight up, that is the most practical approach to this whole miserable situation.

How DARE you. Do you have a father who served in WWII? Your disrespect, and total lack of intelligence and information is astounding. Get informed, and say a prayer for Terri, and try to get over your Bush-bashing agenda.

My father was in WWII and so were 6 uncles including one who saw action on Iwo Jima. Do I have a right to speak on an open forum?

Unless Jeb, especially, and GWB actually DO something, they will be seen accurately as having been neutered. I have written to Gov Bush 2 or 3 times thanking him for what he has done. I have prayed that he find the courage to do whatever is necessary to save Terri. But IF he blinked, or people are convinced that he blinked and Terri is dead as a result of it, his national ambitions (if he had any) are TOAST. America will not elect a GOP POTUS if he is considered (or proven) to be a wimp.

Sorry if reality doesn't afford you a truth to your liking. But that is NOT Bush bashing.

LOL....I'm not sure Jesus would be driving a Humvee since they are evil gas wasters......maybe we should level all of Florida and let God sort them out

That is a blatantly false proposition.
If a group of people condoned the murder of innocents and called themselves Christians in name that does not make them Christians in fact.

Islamicist Fascists terrorists have a belief systme that says you can murder innocents....

So does Florida.. By the way, does Islam allow euthanasia of non-terminally ill disabled people? I bet not. If not, then Islam is more civilized than Florida.

The problem with that, of course, is that he [Greer] would have to be brought before a judge.

Actually, impeached.

Are you not holding Jeb Bush responsible for not saving Terri?"""

I am. We have judicial tyrants - who breakt the law - because elected officials are too cowardly to defend the law against the judicial tyrants. Jeb Bush is showing such cowardice - or excessive caution, to put it more generously. too bad Terri's paying with her life.
