SEMINOLE, Fla. -- A man was arrested after trying to steal a weapon from a gun shop so he could "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo," authorities said.
Michael W. Mitchell, of Rockford, Ill., entered Randall's Firearms Inc. in Seminole just before 6 p.m. Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun, said Marianne Pasha, a spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Mitchell, 50, told deputies he wanted to "take some action and rescue Terri Schiavo" after he visited the Pinellas Park hospice where she lives, Pasha said.

Honestly I'm surprised there haven't been more cases of this sort of thing.

is his behavior really any more idiotic than judge greers? or michael schiavo's?
no attempt to justify here, only to put in perspective. The principal is this: when leadership loses its mind, so will some of the citizens. That's just one of the responsibilities of leadership.

Honestly I'm surprised there haven't been more cases of this sort of thing. My thoughts exactly. If it were my daughter's feeding tube they could pull it from her after they pull it "from my cold, dead hands."

Here's my guess:
This guy is either one of two things:
1. A hopelessly stupid individual who couldn't figure out that he could buy a gun legally and then do what he says he intended to do.
-- OR --
2. A person with an agenda who knew that he would get cuaght if he attempted to break into a gun shop. A person bright enough to understand how he could make supporters of the 2nd Amendment and supporters of Terri Schiavo's right to life look like a bunch of whacko-s.

Only a real genius would attempt to rob a gun shop with a knife.

Peter tried much the same thing, albeit with a sword.
Bad idea then, too.
