Terri Schiavo's medical condition is in dispute, she left no living will, we don't know her present wishes, and yet the courts are ordering that her husband has the right to kill her? This outrage simply couldn't happen in a culture that considered human life sacred.
"Objection," you say. "The courts are exhibiting their ultimate respect for life by carrying out the wishes of a person to terminate her own life and die with dignity."
Even the "pull the tube" advocates, then, are agreeing that we can't remove the feeding tube unless the patient has previously indicated her intent, either in writing or verbally, that that be done.
But what other conditions must be necessary for the doctors to remove nourishment to a physically healthy patient? Well, presumably, the patient must be in a persistent vegetative state, or PVS.
The courts have apparently determined that both conditions have been satisfied: Terri is in a PVS, and she expressed her intention not to be kept alive artificially if she ever arrived in that condition.

"See what Americans do to their own people!"
"This case marks a turning point in the Culture War, where society is making a giant leap toward the dark side, embracing the lie over truth and death over life. In our relentless quest to become like gods, we are crossing another sacred line, and it is hard to imagine how we might return."
Thank you, David Limbaugh
?.....U.S. Citizenship is Terri's REAL problem?
I am more deeply ashamed of my country today than I have ever been. I am doubly ashamed of the regular posters at FR who have proudly chosen fellowship with Felos, Fieger, Kevorkian, Singer, Greer, and Whittemore for a place at the devil's own sacrament.

We have become fat, lazy, and cowardly. Civil disobediance MADE America. Now instead of abolishing slavery, we remove all public signs of religion, marry queers, and kill those who cannot fend for themselves.
America is on the decline in everything that used to distinguish us from others.
So much easier to do the killing when a god is not in the picture. After all, many think they are god with the decision of when death occurs in their own hands.
....The grim reaper has become a more fitting image of this nation's soul than lady liberty. Toss out the blindfolded woman holding the scales of justice and substitute the grim reaper.
This included a substantial number of FReepers.
This is very true. I have been stunned by the reactions of some people on here - but then I realized that many of them are speaking out of the zeitgeist, one might say, and honestly aren't reflecting on the meaning of their words.
Another thing I am finding very disturbing right now is this exaltation of death in general. Suddenly, it's no longer something to be avoided, but something kind of warm and fuzzy that we should all be looking forward to eagerly.
Perhaps that has to do with the fact that most Americans don't believe in judgment or Hell anymore, or perhaps it's the influence of a bunch of seriously misunderstood Oriental religions, or perhaps it's just another way of saying Americans don't really know why they're alive or what they have to live for. I guess once the Viagra stops working, it's time to kick the bucket and float off to the Happy Hunting Ground.
I suspect that there are a lot of people who object to removing a feeding tube on a patient who is not dying of a terminal illness no matter what the patient might have wanted and no matter how clearly the patient might have expressed those wishes. And, when this particular case is over, that is an issue that needs to be more fully discussed.
Exactly.
I'm having a hard time believing there was nothing either of the Bush brothers could have done. If they were beseeching God to help them save her, wouldn't they have found a way?
Part of the heartbreak for me, is the sense that our leadership has failed us. I love GW, pray for him daily like a brother, and I've thanked God for his bravery.
You can flame me if you want, I'd love to have someone convince me that GW has not become Pontius Pilate (and Jeb too).

Afraid so.
They know not what they do. They too are subject to what they subject to others. Judge not as ye shall be judged might apply.
LOL
Wonder who they think will set up the "happy hunting ground" - their slave?
There could be no "happy hunting ground" unless there is a God. If there is a God is he there to just provide them a "hunting ground" or is there more involved?
Could it be that He is the One allowing entry to that "hunting ground"? Why have one for all - we have earth for that, why do we need something after death?
Could it be that God wants those created in His image to live with him for eternity but, as God, he is God and we are not worthy to be in his presence.
So, he sent His Son to die for our sins so that we are pure and forgiven. All we have to do is accept this gift of His Son as our Lord, be baptised for the remission of our sins and follow His commandments to the best of our ability.
Don't think there is a resort waiting for us just because.
