Judge admits mistake, refuses to reverse findings on Terri Schiavo

Clearwater, Florida - Judge George Greer admits there was an error in fact in the 2000 trial that established Terri Schiavo;s "right to die."

When a family friend claimed a 19-year-old Terri was upset that right to die icon Karen Ann Quinlan's parents removed her from life support, the Judge discounted the testimony, reportedly because the Judge said Quinlan died in 1976.

Quinlan was taken off life support in 1976, but died in 1985. A technical error, yes. But Wednesday afternoon, Judge Greer ruled it was not enough to affect the outcome of the 2000 lawsuit that held Terri would not want to be kept alive with severe brain damage.

The whole rationale of the impending homicide is based on the claim that Terri wanted to die.

As I have read through Florida laws there is a fairly heavy burden in establishing the desires of the incapacitated person. I didn't think that it had been met before this news.

"At the 2000 trial, Greer, although initially finding Meyer's testimony 'believable,' concluded that the conversation could not have occurred in 1982, because he believed Quinlan died in 1976. At that time, Terri would have been only 11 or 12 years old and, therefore, would not have made her end-of-life wishes as an adult."

"The new motion contends it was Greer who was mistaken and not Meyer, because Quinlan did not die until 1985, about 9 years after her court case ended and her respirator was removed."

"None of the attorneys working on the Schiavo case in 2000 apparently noticed the mistake in dates, according to the Schindlers' attorney David Gibbs."

Which he simply cannot do in such situations. The DCF has statutory power to act legally in such an emergency. Bush needs to pull the trigger and stop playing soft ball with Greer. Play hard ball with him. Greer has no police or troopers working for him and Bush has the law on his side in this case. Arrest Greer for obstruction, that is what he is doing.

Something is stinking higher and higher to heaven about all of this..

He disregards the testimony that supports the Schindlers contentions at every turn. He's beyond hope. I don't even think he's rational any more.

Kind of looks like he made up his mind regardless of the evidence

Greer can and should be charged with murder if he admits a mistake and does not reverse himself.

Well, Good Friday is coming up. I suppose Greer has "washed his hands of the matter".

This is a crystal clear case to me. What are the President and the Governor of Florida waiting for? If President Eisenhower can send in the Federal Marshals to protect kids trying to go to school, President Bush can surely protect this woman from dying a painful death of starvation and dehydration!!

Why isn't this big news?

Because they see millions of people reaching retirement age and millions less that will be around to support them in their old age. The ruling political elite see themselves as vulnerable, being the only ones left standing to pay for the growing needs of the elderly. So, they want to establish now that someone can be "helped to move on" once they have become a burden on society.

If anyone has another explanation, I'd love to hear it. I can't think of any other that makes sense. It can only be one of two things: Either they are that stupid or something else is going on. People are rarely "that stupid."

It's a natural mistake. By Judge Greer's definition, Karen Quinlan really was dead 9 years before she died.
