Americans Recover Arafat’s plundered hoard
Debkafile ^ | March 20, 2005

A part of Yasser Arafat’s secret hoard - $4 bn - has been documented and accounted for in a painstaking project undertaken by Nigel Roberts, the World Bank’s country director for the West Bank, and Palestinian finance minister Salam Fayyad. They have obtained partial information about another $1-2bn and found a further three to four billion invested on Arafat’s behalf by two individuals, his chief financial adviser Mohammed Rashid, and Palestinian-born international tycoon Samer Khoury.

This was reported exclusively by DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s exclusive sources for the first time in DNW Issue 197 on March 11.

”You can stop going around with your hat in your hand,” a stern US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice told Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) at the London conference on Palestinian reforms earlier this month. “You have all the money you need to transform the economic situation in the Palestinian Authority.”

She told Abbas to go back to Ramallah and assume immediate control of the Palestinian Investment Fund (PIF) where the bulk of Arafat’s money was stashed, or forget about receiving a single aid dollar from international donors.

Suha better get ready to move down the economic ladder, I don't think Condi will approve of the death settlement rung out of the PA on Yassir's death bed. LOL

One more quote:

"Arafat’s secret business empire sprawled far and wide, ranging from telecommunications companies in Brazil to Guinea Bissau’s national airline and a coffee plantation in Zimbabwe.

Eighty percent of international donations accumulated over nearly a decade was invested for profit. The remainder financed terrorism, arms purchases, training, subsistence and payouts to families left bereaved by suicide bombings and other casualties. A portion of the profits supported Arafat’s corrupt entourage of cronies, hangers-on and their life style. Not much was left over for creating jobs or building hospitals."

Do I rightly see a note of sarcasm in your post?
The fact that Arafat plundered the international financial aid for years, was established long ago.

A thief, that what he was.

The Palestine Liberation Organization's former treasurer, Jaweed al-Ghussein, who with Britain's help was released from house arrest in the Palestinian Authority, accuses Yasser Arafat of corruption. The leadership of the Palestinian Authority is corrupt and the Palestinians deserve a democracy, he told Ha'aretz. Al-Ghussein, 71, says he is a businessman who has made his fortune in construction projects in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Arafat has been after him for years with false accusations after he had exposed corruption and after he had openly criticized Arafat for his support of Saddam Hussein in the early `90s, al-Ghussein said. "I found out how he took aid money and contributions that were earmarked for the Palestinian people to his own account," he said. http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=198626&contrassID=2&subContrassID=1&sbSubContrassID=0

Let me correct the article just a bit:

Eighty percent of international donations accumulated over nearly a decade was invested for profit and terrorist activities. The remainder financed terrorism, arms purchases, terrorism, training, subsistence and payouts to terrorist's families left bereaved by terrorist suicide bombings, terrorism, and other arab casualties of their own terrorism. A portion of the profits supported Arafat’s corrupt entourage of cronies, terrorism, hangers-on and their life style. Not much was left over after funding terrorism for creating jobs or building hospitals for terrorist who blow themselves up while making terror bombs but manage to survive.

There, that's better. But, not much left over? Even with arab corruption $4B ought to buy a hospital or two.

Those in the know also point to the fortune he has put aside.

The Saudi press noted that 'Arafat "helps himself to the aid supplied to the PLO and the Palestinians."

Mustafa Tallas, the Syrian defense minister, claims that Yasir 'Arafat owns $12 billion in his own name and is "one of the world's ten richest men." Tallas further claims 'Arafat stole £1.7 billion from Ar-Rafidayn Bank in Beirut, which he deposited in his own name, not that of the PLO."

This "wealth", which is really loot, was once thought to only be a "mere" few hundred million dollars, but that didn't stop the MSM and socialist sycophants from blaming Israel or the US for the poverty and living conditions of the average Palestinian.

Neither will it stop now that that the accounting is up to $4 billion. I wonder how much that is per capita?

But this money came from somewhere, mostly from the Europeans, which kept giving even when they knew it was only going into someone's pocket. Given how the UN/Saddam Oil-for-Scandal Food Program found willing takers in France and Germany, we now see that France and Germany also play the game in reverse. What does this prove they are?

I know for a fact ,that EU gives to PLO $350 million/year.
The same sum is provided by the UN to UNWRA - from member contries subsidies.

$4 billion represent 8 years of PA budget.

Palestinian kills sister

JERUSALEM A 17-year-old Palestinian girl, who became pregnant after her father raped her, was strangled to death by her brother in a so-called honour killing in the northern West Bank, a Palestinian newspaper reported yesterday.

Al Ayyam daily said the teenager was strangled by her 27-year-old brother on Wednesday in Bala’a town near the northern city of Tulkarem. Arrested by Palestinian security forces, the brother admitted he had killed her to “erase the shame” after her pregnancy began showing.

He also admitted knowing that his sister had become pregnant because their father raped her. Police are now hunting the 52-year-old father, who witnessed the murder, and has since disappeared.

A Palestinian women’s group said the girl had reported the rape to the police after learning she was pregnant.

“The police did not arrest or even question the father,” the group charged in an open letter published in another paper.
