President's Statement on Terri Schiavo
The White House ^

The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

Seeing on TV that Terri had had her tube yanked was not all that different for me in its emotional impact--
this is America? moment, than seeing that gang drag Elian back to Castro.
Same thing when I watched the tanks knock over the walls at the Branch Davidian on children and pregnant women, all for the offended vanity of the Clinton administration.
Seems to me that some answer is out there that will not result in new bad laws. Sanctioning the judge...?

To: Howlin
Well, it's a "family decision"!
You look so ridiculous claiming the cloak of "family" justifies an abomination. What is happening to Terri is just as much an abomination as the putative sacrifice of little brother to Baal.
To: BobS
Mr. President, please find those jack-booted thugs that found Elian Gonzales. They have another mission.
And in this case, it would be the proper use of "jackbooted thugs." If I was President, the 82nd Airborne would be there.

I asked you first-- and it was a serious question. Does the POTUS have authority to call out the National Guard in a case like this? If I'm not mistaken, LBJ called up the Guard to protect the safety of civil rights marchers in Selma, Alabama, in 1965. Whether things have changed since then, I don't know. But given the broad powers of the Presidency, I don't think it unreasonable to suggest that he could at least do something.

Obviously, the truth about what you say beats against your skull like cotton on diamond. No hope of penetration to you.

The sovereignty of the states is more important than the life of any individual. Jawohl! Heil Hitler!

I guess you think I won't take the time to track down that infamous quote of yours regarding "assault" weapons?
To: Howlin
I see. Now that it's something you want, send in the jackboots?
Well, in that case, it would be the proper use to defend life unlike Elian. BTW,in addition to the 82nd Airborne, I'll up the ante and toss in the 24th Infantry Division, the 7th Signal Corps (my father served there in the mid 1950's), a Soviet Motorized Rifle Division and a platoon of Mossad agents. Oh yeah, one more thing, a giant box of King Cobras, Egyptian Sand Vipers, Rattlers and Komodo Dragons to toss Michael Schiavo in.

Given a Fort Sumter situation, the President doesn't need a court order to respond to the situation. Seems to me "W" has all the material he needs to justify picking up this Greer fellow and tossing him in the clink.
Same goes for his fellow conspirators.
To: HiTech RedNeck; Howlin
I wouldn't put it past Howlin to have tried out his own version of "family values". Wonder how his basement would withstand a thorough search.

Thanks for identifying your thoughts to all.

Santorum is on Laura Ingraham's show and he maintains the law they have drafted is narrow so as to apply only to terri schiavo. His position is that there should be a check on the system, a de novo review as to whether her rights were sufficiently protected in FL.
According to Sen. Santorum, Frist reviewed the medical evidence in her case, talked to the doctors in this case, and he was persuasive in talking to his colleagues as to what her physical state truly is, in advocating for the bill.

and in your case Howlin, the confiscation of privately owned firearms.
We've had this discussion before and you lost that time, too, but be my guest!
I repeat, I have NEVER said ONE WORD on FR about confiscating ANYBODY'S weapons.

Do Freepers have to have a "sexual orientation"?
To: muawiyah
Evidently they do; 157 was asking if somebody was a homosexual.
I did not know this.

"
I will say that it IS the same committee that is acting in this."
That is the accellerant that drives my previously pissed-off state into a higher level. I guess (hope) the GOP Chairman arrives to the realization that our societal life trumps cultural pastimes like sports and wayward sports guys. They better not drop the ball on this one.
