Jeb came out big before and I think this is out of his hands.
As far as the President, Congress or the Senate coming out on this, well they all disappoint me to be honest.
This timing by them all smacks more of self serving politics than it does and real effort to save Terri.

Why beyond the last moment do they NOW get involved?
Where have they been the last few years for her and perhaps all the others who did not make the press?

The President made a fine and true statement that would have been better served to be said years ago IMO.

Wow, someone who gets the greater implications of the feds getting all big-brother on us.

Exactly.

I've been about to freak out all day long, thinking of Tom DeLay sitting up in D.C. trying to TRUMP UP a reason to subpoena a woman to D.C. and stick his nose in this issue.

And then, when I heard him say, "I don't care what Michael Schaivo thinks," I was positive I was right.

They have NO business getting involved in this, except for the circus face time value.

"I see. Now that it's something you want, send in the jackboots?"

Yes, before they kill everyone that needs a feeding tube, like alzheimers patients.

I never thought I'd live to see the day conservatives would BEG for jackboots; disgusting.

Who are you people?

Don't you have some gloating to do?

All the dismay of those who wanted to see Terri at least have a chance at threatment--they are quite crushed. What do you want now?

The rumor that she may be getting extra pain meds was not based on folly. That's what they give to people whose feeding tubes are withdrawn, to see them through the ordeal. If it's morphine, that will also hasten the demise. So have me yanked for saying it, if you've a mind to!

But hanging around jeering at those upset is just plain strange.

If I were the President, I'd be calling out the National Guard, not indulging in toothless rhetoric.

They were sent in to take Elian - can they be used to save Terri?"

The sovereignty of states is more important than the life of any individual ....

Or his ability to sit with a white person at a lunch counter.

I hate to seem impolite, but I don't want a "statement" from President Bush - - I want him to pick up the phone.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the POTUS is authorized to call out the National Guard in this situation. I'd like for him to stay within his powers. Am I wrong?

I didn't beg anything. Just compare the the two situations. Which one is in the support of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness?

First, without further qualification to your statement I would question whether it's nine.

What drives them? Under the cloak of "judicial review" unspoken tyranny has been inflicted on this land. Legal abortion is a blight on the landscape. It takes no law school graduation to know that killing the innocent - non-terminal, non-vegetative folks with no written directives - is wrong. A child knows this. Our laws and constituion, portions of which other FReepers have diligently posted, appear to reflect this.

Occam's Razor: the simplest answer is probably the correct one.

The insanity of some on this thread is breathtaking.

If the government does not have as its primary job the protection and defense of innocent life then what good is it?

God help this nation.

I see you learned nothing from our little encounter this morning, did you?

People on FR like facts, not mischaracterization.

You fit the latter perfectly.

What needs clarification? Don't you know how many members there are on the Supreme Court?

Is this the point where we throw up our hands and scream, "Would somebody, please, do something!".

They have to rescue Terri to a professional facility and detain eveyone involved in treating her.
