FAMILY SPOKESPERSON: SCHIAVO FEEDING TUBE REMOVED!
Bay News 9 ^ | 3/18/05

Posted on 03/18/2005 12:18:38 PM PST by areafiftyone

A spokesperson for Michael Schiavo says Terri Schiavo's feeding tube was removed Friday with Michael in attendance.

He says a prayer service was held first, and that Michael was emotional and crying, saying he wanted to put the situation behind him.

Terri Schiavo's parents, the Schindlers, visited with Terri Friday morning, prior to the tube's removal.

Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court Judge George Greer denied two U.S. House of Representative emergency motions Friday, which allowed the tube's removal.

The first motion was to intervene in the case for the House Committee on Government Reform and the second motion was to push the date back nine days so it could conduct what it calls a field investigation concerning the healthcare of Schiavo.

A neurologist appeared at Terri Schiavo's Pinellas Park hospice center Friday with a TV screen to show video of patients he treated that were in worse condition than Schiavo and got better.

Quote: Premature babies are fed through feeding tubes, sometimes for YEARS and grow up to be fine.

However in most cases they are not brain dead vegetables. You are generalizing. Each case is different.

I'd like to see the "legal reasoning" for that ruling. POS.

I'm willing to bet that it's being disallowed because "it could put her in jeopardy of death by aspiration of foreign matter into the airway" -in other words, you can starve her to death, but God help you if you cause her to choke.

I'm with you. I messed up my reply to superiorslots who stated they would medicate her for pain.

They need to medicate a woman who is braindead and can't feel? Yeah right, a little slip there, huh?

If the give her pain meds, couldn't that affect her heart rate, respirations, etc.?

I cannot imagine what darkness must lurk in this doctor's mind.

It's strange enough to see leftists cry over a condemned murderer being sent to his death by lethal injection.

They cry foul when terrorist scum are so humiliated when someone put a pink panty on their head.

They scream in anguish if a kangaroo rat, red tree frog or the caribou will be harmed.

They fuss about civil rights of gay citizens who wish to get married are being violated.

They demand that our government must place water tanks in the desert so that lawbreaking illegal aliens won't get dehydrated sneaking into our country.

They risk their lives to save the whale, trees, and terrorists murderers from being tortured, but to show compassion or care for the civil rights of a defenseless disabled woman? Nope, they are gleefully happy seeing her die in such a brutal, barbaric, inhumane manner.

I've called by Congressman on Terry's and Life's behalf. He is on the right side of life and is supporting her cause.

I've been crying on and off all day. One minute I'm so happy I could fly when good news is broken, a minute later I'm crying when the good news has been taken away.

This see-sawing has to stop. They need to put her feeding tube back in.

If she stays alive long enough to make the trip to DC, can they put the feeding tube back in once she is out of the state of Florida?

"I wouldn't want to live on a feeding tube."

Wow...that statement seems full of anger. Did you mean to say that? Or are you just a misanthrope?

The doctors said they was going to give her massive amounts of morphine and sedatives and other drugs to knock her out)if she is even aware).

This seems to raise a fatal flaw in the case. If the individual is indeed PVS, why should such medication even be considered? The fact that it is being considered seems to cast doubt on the PVS claim.

I don't know, am I missing something here, or does logic no longer apply in this case?

Oral feedings have been disallowed. Terri has never been allowed to have a proper swallowing evaluation to determine her swallowing abilities.

There seems to be this sick inflation of the language, where progressively less-serious medical disabilities come to be seen as "intolerable", as "I wouldn't want to live like that!"

First it was "iron lungs" i.e. breathing machines, keeping alive the bodies of people who were braindead.... and some casual observers say "Well! I wouldn't want to live like that."

Then we have this "persistent vegetative state" thing (which is a ridiculously moronic and unscientific "diagnosis", if you just think about the term for a second).... and some casual observers say "Well! I wouldn't want to live like that."

But NOW, even just being fed by a (GASP) feeding tube falls into the "Well! I wouldn't want to live like that." category?

it's bizarre.

Some fraction of society is, apparently, really really easy to convince that this or that condition, which they (evidently) don't even know much about, is Intolerable and You Wouldn't Want To Live Like That.

What's next?

Paraplegic? "I wouldn't want to live like that."

Blind? "I wouldn't want to live like that."

Deaf? "I wouldn't want to live like that."

I just wonder where it ends? And why some people are so easy to convince that certain other peoples' lives just aren't worth living?

It's scary.

I say that no elected official in DC, or Florida, should be allowed food, or water, until hearings are held and this case is solved. Terri has had no adequate hearings yet.

That's an idea! Why don't they move her out of Florida? And another idea - why don't the parents have Terri file for a divorce - maybe they can do that and get full control of their daughter! I am sooo desperate right now for some good news!

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or thirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
