ABC Action News just posted this story and video.

http://www.tampabaylive.com/stories/2005/03/050318schiavo.shtml

PINELLAS PARK - With just hours until Terri Schiavo's feeding tube is scheduled to be removed, a flurry of last-minute developments is underway in the long-running right-to-die case.

Legislators in Washington, D.C. have taken up the cause of the brain-damaged woman's family, but it is not clear how their efforts will affect the 1 p.m. deadline. Subpoenas from the Senate Health Committee are on their way to relevant parties in the case, the attorney for Terri's family announced this morning.

"Attorneys from Washington D.C., as well as our office, are working diligently this morning to do everything that we can to spare Terri Schiavo," David Gibbs III stated.

The Senate committee subpoenaed Terri to testify before Congress next week. Anyone interfering with Terri's ability to appear before legislators could face contempt of Congress and other federal charges, Gibbs warned.

"What the United States Congress is saying is, 'We want to see Terri Schiavo.' The family applauds these actions taken by the Congress," Gibbs continued. "We are very hopeful that Terri will get to make a trip to Washington D.C."

David Gibbs speaks this morning, flanked by activist Randall Terry and Terri Schiavo's sister.
Terri has been in a persistent vegetative state since a 1990 heart attack, dependant on a feeing tube for nutrition and hydration. Courts have ruled that she has no chance of recovery, prompting her husband Michael to try and have the tube removed.

Terri's family, however, disputes Michael's claims that his wife would not want to live in such a condition. They have waged a lengthy but ultimately unsuccessful court battle, which culminated with today's court-mandated deadline for the tube's removal.

It was not immediately clear how the morning's developments out of Washington would impact the case's status in the state courts. David Gibbs conceded that the legal picture was still muddy, but he was hopeful that it would buy time for Terri, if nothing else.

"There are obviously some interesting federalism issues here," Gibbs said, suggesting federal courts would eventually resolve the questions. "Any action to end Terri's life until it's sorted out would be inappropriate."

In addition to the congressional developments, the family was also hoping that a morning filing for a temporary injunction in federal court would reward them with a stay. It was their only other option after state legislators adjourned.

Back in Pinellas Park, Terri's family was visiting with her at the hospice where she lives, but they declined to speak at a morning press conference. Several protestors from various right-to-life groups were rallying outside the hospice, encouraged by activist Randall Terry.

There was no word this morning from Michael Schiavo or his attorney, George Felos, who previously indicated that they had been planning to remove the feeding tube as ordered at 1 p.m.

RESPOND TO EDITOR E-MAIL STORY PRINTER FRIENDLY FOXFAN CENTRAL House Delivering Subpoenas in Schiavo Case Friday, March 18, 2005 PHOTOS VIDEO Click image to enlarge STORIES •Court Refuses to Block Schiavo Tube Removal•Michael Schiavo Blasts Jeb Bush•House, Senate Clash Over Terri Schiavo•Judge: Agency Cannot Delay Schiavo Case•Fla. Lawmakers Act on Schiavo's Behalf•Schiavo's Parents Push for New Rulings•Schiavo's Parents Ask Judge to OK Divorce WASHINGTON — House lawyers are on their way to Florida to issue subpoenas to several individuals involved in the case of a severely brain-damaged woman who was scheduled to have her feeding tube removed at 1 p.m. EST Friday. Meanwhile, police in Pinellas Park, Fla., were preparing for the hundreds of protesters expected to show up outside the hospice of the woman, Terri Schiavo (search), whose case has received national attention. FOX News has learned that the counsel for the House Government Reform Committee (search) issued subpoenas to Schiavo's husband, Michael, her parents, the hospice administrator and the patient's attending physician. FOX News has also obtained copies of the subpoenas. That commmittee has scheduled a hearing on Friday, March 25, to hear from these individuals. In addition to the testimony, the subpoenas require that Schiavo's feeding tube remain. An attorney for Schiavo's parents also said he would ask a federal judge in Tampa to block the removal and review the actions of state courts. Such habeas corpus appeals seek to require the government to justify its actions.

"We are going to ask him to issue a stay because in this case, state action would be used to end the life of an innocent, disabled woman," the attorney, David Gibbs said.

That says it all nicmarlo.

Thanks for the link.

The only reason I have any doubts at all that Krauthammer will be pro-life for Terri, is that I believe I've read he's 'pro-choice.' Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

But I'm hoping and praying Dr. Krauthammer will lend his powerful voice to help defend Terri this Sunday.

House panel to probe Terri Schiavo case

Subpoenas will order doctors not to remove feeding tube in meantime

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43370

A House committee on Capitol Hill has decided to launch an investigation into the Terri Schiavo case, which may delay the court-ordered removal of the her life-sustaining feeding tube scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern today.

The House Government Reform Committee will issue subpoenas ordering doctors and administrators at the hospice facility where the severly brain-damaged woman resides not to remove her feeding tube and keep her alive until the investigation is complete.

Ignoring the subpoenas would amount to being in contempt of Congress and would incur penalties of fines and or imprisonment.

I hope those subpoenas carry an implied threat of punishment, severe enough to give Schiavo and his goons second thoughts about ignoring them.

But I'd feel a lot better if I knew there was some real force behind the subpoenas!

Does anybody know if there might be federal marshals, or some other kind of actual protective force, sent to Florida to keep the ghouls from starting the killing process today?

I was asking you where in the Bible it says that people should kill other people if they deem their life unworthy?

That is my only authority..sorry.
