Pittsburgh (KDKA) A deadly shooting outside Carrick High School this afternoon has put the school on lockdown.
Officials have confirmed that one student is dead and two others were wounded in the shooting around 2pm.
According to authorities, police stopped a car outside the school and were running a check on its license plate when another vehicle pulled up and started shooting at the car.
One juvenile in the car was shot in the head and killed; a second juvenile was critically injured by gunshots. A third juvenile in the car was injured by flying glass. Authorities believe all three were Carrick High School students.
Police say the shooting may have involved an AK-47.
As a precaution, students have been kept inside the building past their normal 2:17pm dismissal while police officers swarmed the area; but they're expected to be released within the hour.
More than 1300 students in ninth through twelfth grades are enrolled at Carrick High School, which is located on Parkfield Street.
Before I was a teenager and well into my teen years we made and set off bombs and explosive devices that would get us long prison sentences today. Our parents and the local police knew what we were doing and didn't have a problem as long as we didn't endanger anyone or cause any damage.
I never had a chemistry set but several friends did. There were experiments that would scare people silly today. Chemical supply stores and some drug stores sold everything we needed to make gunpowder, guncotton and one time nitroglycerine. Sodium metal and calcium carbide could be used to create an explosion and fire projectiles. Now we can't even set off a firecracker.
"Now we can't even set off a firecracker."
As much as I hate to say it...considering that 90% of parents do not raise their children anymore it probably is safer for all of us that some of these things are not so readily available. :( I think that would change if someone actually held parents of underaged people accountable for what their children are doing.
"The shooter is still at large."
Is every police department in the country falling apart?
"Now you know Norwegians don't live in rundown neighborhoods."
They might be rundown, but I'll be they are clean, gleaming clean.
WHAT? Haven't you ever seen "Red Dawn?" (:-) I had the opportunity to stop some violent crimes before I turned 18. Fortunately guns weren't involved.
Does the second ammendment apply only to adults? What about the first? Alot of American young men fought when they were under 18.
I think kids should be taught firearm safety and when I was 16 and my parents left for a while I had access to their revolver. Never did anything stupid or harmful either.
Look at common law.
...get a long rope and a tall oak tree, hang all o' those bad boys for the people to see!
You are an Asshole!!!!!!!
Fom a friend who wnet there, the problems started when the elites decided that busing students in from St. Clair Village and Betlzhoover would be a good idea.
Police were looking for a late-1990s or early-2000s green or teal-colored car with a sunroof, possibly a Buick LeSabre or Buick Park Avenue.,
This is what the suspect was driving
....when a green Hyundai Sonata with at least two people inside....
Makes me wonder how accurate the description of the weapon was.
I'm told that the same thing is happening in my old school district in extreme northeast Allegheny county. I hear they've even added metal detectors there.
If a human being is determined to kill children it is because that human being is evil and has made the decision to kill children..he or she will do this with whatever tool is available..
Mother's have drowned their children in the bathtub or driven their vehicles into lakes with their children in them or smothered their infants and abandoned them in dumpsters.
It's all horrible
The prevention for such horror is to hire teachers who are willing to be armed to protect their kids
Disarming honest protective capable good guys will never protect anyone except violent criminals and allow them to prey on families with even greater impunity.
It makes no more sense to disarm honest citizens then it does to disarm soldiers on the battlefield because other soldiers got killed by guerrillas using stolen weapons.
Criminals by definition do not respect law...and will violate laws to get the means to ply their violent trade or to satisfy their sick desires
We live in a society that imports criminals across unchecked borders and breeds others in broken homes and in socialist cess pools the moral vacuums haughtily referred to as public schools.
A gun..any gun is a tool an inanimate object without a deranged mind and an operator determined to do evil it cannot harm a soul..
If you want to stop violence any violence govt inspired or otherwise you must change human hearts
Communist Governments including the Chinese,Muslim Governments African governments routinely arrest torture and murder their own citizens in most brutal fashion..
Their citizens cannot resist them..
Disarming honest citizens because of a few violent criminals is not the answer to combating violent crime..
Authoritarian governments love violent criminals as they provoke some vocal members of society to demand the government disarm the good citizens the government fears most...honest citizens who will not tolerate their freedom being taken
The Nazis and the Soviets first use violent crime as their excuse for disarming their own people..and once disarmed the murders began that made rivers of blood flow through nations
While violent crime makes headlines and causes panic...the real crime will start after good people are disarmed not while they are armed.
imo
YES, they certainly are. When I went to Oslo, all I saw were clean streets, stores, homes, etc. I would love to bring more of it here to the good ole USA, especially our cities.
