freedominion.ca again under hack attack

Posted on 03/15/2005 7:03:23 PM PST by maikeru

Freerepublic's Canadian cousin, Freedominion has been under hack seige for two days now.

Noxious emails to all members yesterday were followed up today first by all comments being reworded as a profane reference to Republicans, and now by the following oddball words strewn throughout all posts: 'Limecat', H4X, KHAAAAAAAAN, ROAR and AKJREJOIFJKJEWOIUOIWE

I received an e-mail from "Connie" today saying: YOU ARE GOING TO DIE SOON!

I lost count at numbers eight or nine, but my first thought was

"Gee, this is the heaviest-handed fundraiser I've seen in quite a while..."

Our server people have found the vulnerability and patched it. We should be up again fairly soon.

I am certainly glad to hear that, and will keep checking Free Dominion until she's back online.

Personally, I favor bringing back horsewhipping in the Town Square for these cybervandals.

I visualize their balls in a vise.

Clypp had it exactly right in post #18 though, it was a phpBB vulnerability allowing admin access. The tech support at ServePath has fixed it for us.

People who commit deliberate cybervandalism- whether writing malicious code, or propagating it- need to be heavily penalized.

Triple fines for lost time combatting their garbage, damages assessed for lost data, and jail time.

Some here advocate barring them for life from anything to do with computers, and perhaps that would be appropriate as well.

"KHAAAAAAAAN, ROAR and AKJREJOIFJKJEWOIUOIWE"

Howard Dean must be behind this.

"I had six of those babies in my mail."

When I got the first one, I spam blocked it.

It is backfiring on the hackers:

'You Will Die Shortly'

My filters put five in the bulk bin. But I was still surprised to see all these subject lines proclaiming my eminent death.

What a b@tch it would be to survive Iraq and die from an arterial papercut at the office.

Or get run over by the USO truck taking the Anglz to the airport!

The hackers are using a simple program to use a phpBB expoit gaining admin rights.

Our web site at work was hacked yesterday by the "simiens crew" and that's exactly how they got in. Did lots of damage too.

I just checked my second email address. Turns out I received one of those, too.

Nobs.
