McCain: I Haven't Ruled Out 2008
Newsmax ^ | 3/15/05

Presumed presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is playing it coy when it comes to nailing down his intentions for a 2008 run.

"I certainly haven't ruled it out," was about as far as the GOP maverick would go in an interview with the Detroit News on Monday.

McCain was in Michigan for a fund-raiser for Republican House member Pete Hoekstra and state Attorney General Mike Cox.

Asked about a line in his 2002 memoir "Worth the Fighting For" - where McCain said of his presidential ambitions, "My time may be passing" - the Arizona Republican told columnist George Weeks:

"What I was trying to say is that I want to wait two years to make a decision on that. I'd like to concentrate on trying to be a good senator for a couple of years before I would have to wrestle with that decision."

Others traveling with McCain were less conflicted.

"I'm going to urge him to run," Republican National Committeeman Chuck Yob told the News. Yob cited polls showing McCain defeating Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Kerry and John Edwards in prospective 2008 matchups.

For his part Hoekstra says that McCain is "in the top tier" of possible 2008 candidates, but adds, "It's too early for anybody to even think about it."

Well here I was, feeling good about Lebanon and Bernie Ebbers and this topic comes along.

I'm of the mind that McCain had his turn- he didn't make it. But there's no one yet that I'm warming up to.

Congress has been the problem for years. We need to clean it out but no one will.

I seriously would vote for Hillary over McCain. It is better to have a known enemy than a very unstable friend.

With McCain, it's not just that he's not a conservative, or is a RINO, it's that he is self-absorbed, egotistic and untrustworthy.

Dittos to that one.

We already ruled out McCain in 2000, thanks very much.

I really don't want to start getting into his war record and his actions on the POW-MIA committee, but if we have to, we have to.

If we still had loony bins, that would be where he belongs.

McQueeg looks worse and worse everytime I see him on TV. His face is a mess -- looks like the cancer is eating it away. He might be like Tsongas. The cancer might get the better of him before 2008.

That all very nice, but Ann Coulter has never won (or run) a major campaign. There are few people to ever win the presidency that way and they are usually generals that years earlier won major battles (Washington, Grant, Ike, and Jackson I think).

Pipe,

That is a hobson's choice. Death by hanging or the firing squad? If I have to die, can I take one of my choice with me? If not, I choose not to choose.

Do you think a self-exploding terrorist could stand to be near enough to the cloven foooted one when in search of his 72 virgins? What if we up the ante? 144 virgins and one witch? Nah, there aren't enough bribes to make that happen.

With Soros' money and shadow party organizations, McCain can take the lead in the 2008 Republican early "Money Primary". Recall that this is similar to Rove's strategy for GWB in 2000. Lock in the most money early and you become the front runner well before the nomination battle begins.

McCain "Straight Talks" it through Iowa and New Hampshire with the media's backing. On to the nomination.

McCain then selects his good friend John Kerry as his running mate and beats any ticket the rats can throw at them.

This is McCain's only path to the oval office. Soros gets what he wants. Kerry gets one step {or one heartbeat} closer to his goal.

Well, I certainly ruled out voting for McCain as soon as found out he was "bribable". (did I just coin a word?)
