Presumed presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is playing it coy when it comes to nailing down his intentions for a 2008 run.
"I certainly haven't ruled it out," was about as far as the GOP maverick would go in an interview with the Detroit News on Monday.
McCain was in Michigan for a fund-raiser for Republican House member Pete Hoekstra and state Attorney General Mike Cox.
Asked about a line in his 2002 memoir "Worth the Fighting For" - where McCain said of his presidential ambitions, "My time may be passing" - the Arizona Republican told columnist George Weeks:
"What I was trying to say is that I want to wait two years to make a decision on that. I'd like to concentrate on trying to be a good senator for a couple of years before I would have to wrestle with that decision."
Others traveling with McCain were less conflicted.
"I'm going to urge him to run," Republican National Committeeman Chuck Yob told the News. Yob cited polls showing McCain defeating Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Kerry and John Edwards in prospective 2008 matchups.
For his part Hoekstra says that McCain is "in the top tier" of possible 2008 candidates, but adds, "It's too early for anybody to even think about it."
I've seen McCain a few times in person. When he's off camera, it is more than obvious that he's a disturbed individual. His years in captivity took their toll on his mental stability.
Please, not whle I`m eating.
i dont know, mccain is anti-abortion, pro death penalty, supporter of the president in Iraq and anti-gay marriage i think i would agree with him more
There are no circumstances under which I'd support McCain, were he ever the Republican nominee...none whatsoever. Nor are there are any devil's-choice options that the democrats could offer up, that would impel me to support McCain...none. I won't go down that road...not ever.

Is our 2008 field of candidates really that weak that we have to be talking about McCain? I am getting worried about President Hillary in 2008.
Looks like it.
We are not going to have a whole lot of good choices in 2008. I think McCain it is. We are going to need a known person to run against Hillary.
Pity....
God help us all!!! LOL
I still say Ann Coulter should run against Hitlery. Just to see Ann clean Hitlerys clock in a debate would be worth it. "Sorry Hitlery, this ain`t Oprah"
Hillary will win if McCain runs against her. I will not vote for him. Didn't the GOP learn with Bob Dole?
McLame or I might sit it out which I have never done in a presidential election. I just dread the thought of voting for him! But I'm absolutely NOT going to vote for the BEAST!
Why?
Say what you will about Rudy, and I'd like him to be a Senator or Governor from New York, but he's pro-abortion, and not good on gun control or gay issues.
McCain is better on all those issues.
If I remember correctly, Rudy thinks partial-birth abortion should NOT be outlawed. I like Rudy, but that position on abortion wouldn't work for me.
I hope we have better choices. Just think of that campaign - it's enough to make you sick.
