Rice pointedly declined to rule out running for president in 2008 on Friday during an hour-long interview with reporters at WASHINGTON TIMES, top sources tell DRUDGE. Rice gave her most detailed explanation of a 'mildly pro-choice' stance on abortion, she would not want the government 'forcing its views' on abortion... She explained that she is libertarian on the issue, adding: 'I have been concerned about a government role'... Developing late Friday for Saturday cycles... MORE...

You provide for me a set of false choices. There would be others running other than those which you set before me. Life becomes the tantamount issue. After that I can vote my pocketbook, or my views on the military, or my views on homosexuality, but I don't believe homosexual babies (if they exist), or babies of antimilitary parents, or babies of tax and spend parents should be killed whimsically. When winning an election is substituted for supremacy of the sanctity of life, you have slipped over to the democrat column. I cannot, will not allow myself the luxury of winning at that price.

>>>Me too. And I've been told my acceptance of the morning after pill is no less evil than being for partial birth abortion.
That kind of radical positioning of the pro-life movement is why partial birth abortion is still legal, IMO.>>>

So absolutely true! I don't understand how an abortion in the cell splitting stage, or even the zygot stage is immoral. Especially in the womb of a minor or of a rape victim. A woman shouldn't be forced to carry to term a baby they didn't put there.

That's it. She's out, as far as I'm concerned.

Too bad. I was willing to give her a chance to amend her stance. She blew it.

You don't have the choice to perform late term abortions on a 37 year old.

I believe whoever is President that that President nominates judges who believe in the Constitution and don't try to legislate from the bench. To me, that's more important than the abortion issue.

"What do you think all the moaning and groaning is always about? It's because we've become a big tent and they don't like it ONE bit."

With moderate Dems looking for a new home, I wonder if we would better off sitting them in the back rows?

"Would you vote for someone who is militantly pro-abortion like Hillary? If not then you have to realize that not voting for a 'mildly pro-choice' candidate hands the election to the unsavory characters at moveon.org."

So you're asking me to chose between a ugly pig with lipstick, and a FAT ugly pig with lipstick?

NO THANKS.

"Condi said she was "libertarian" over this issue."

"Libertarian" on the issue means you want the feds out of it and let the states decide individually.

I agree completely. And I am/was a huge Condi fan.

But if she means anything other than what you've stated, I'll be supporting the pro-life candidate. The government should VERY much be involved in this issue. It's about the life of the child. Period.

So if that means the law needs to say, 'No, you may not kill this child in your womb!', then that is what it needs to say. Just like any other law against taking life that is currently on the books.

Lots and lots of judging going on in this thread.

Yep - and as I reviewed this thread it was initiated by YOU, when you dealt the race card early on. The issue in the thread subject and subsequent posts was abortion. YOU made it race. Happy?

"Not many conservatives who care about this country."

......well I wouldn't go that far but too many including on FR seem to get caught up in those damned "trees" and keep missing the "forest".......

"It already is under certain circumstances: self-defense, state executions, and military/police actions."

Some killing is justified. Not all killing is murder. There is a difference.

The evangelical base has alot of clout (more than you apparently give them credit) and if you like perpetual minority status in governing this great land, please continue with that thought process.

Sorry, it's not true; they THINK they do; but they voted in no larger numbers in 2004 than they did in 2000.

Whatever contortions you need to make...

Wow! (I will leave it to the reader to decide just who is going through 'contortions' to make his/her point.)

For the record, I am 100% against abortion.

Nothing wrong with my soul. I am pro-life too. But given a choice between Condi and Hillary, I would choose Condi any day of the week. At a minimum Condi is pro-life in the sense of being a capable commander in chief that can protect life

If she states she is a libertarian on the issue of abortion, that means she is a social liberal on this issue.

"You don't know what motivated me to describe Rice's race in this thread."

No, I don't, since no one brought up race but you. Would you care to share why you suspected your fellow Freepers of being racists and sexists?

The woman part bothers me.

Black does not.

Her views on abortion are deal killers anyhow for me.

Has she ever run for any office. Folks here get carried away with her race and gender actually. Were she a white milkstool, who would even care?
