Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

You are right. It does happen. My husband also is an attorney, was an assistant d.a. in the area. Although it's a small town the authorities knew what areas the perps would go for cover. Always the same area and same ones protecting or covering for each other. Thankfully he has taken a different career path recently. I hated having to keep our phone # unlisted and I hated it when we were surprised when some showed up at our door one evening.

I got the impression that this guy was an emergency reinforcement who was kept underneath the stadium and fed chunks of raw meat and hapless Red Sox fans until he was needed in a particularly desperate situation.

LOL! LMAO!!

Smaller guns and calibers are just fine for target shooting and for training up the kids. They shouldn't be carried by anyone serious about preserving their own skin. .357 on the light end. Putting 600+ FPE on a target with a 10mm is a lot better than the .40's 400 FPE. The difference could mean keeping ones head on ones shoulders.

That was my whole point. The .40 "Short and Weak", as I referred to it, is exactly as I described it. An inferior round compared to the larger 10mm.

Never been a cop in California. Been in Oklahoma all my life. So I'm not your relative.

Yes, he is evil, but in order to catch him we all need to know what we're looking for.

You seem to have a problem with the descriptions released, including medium complexion, even though that is accurate.

No prob. It astonishes me that the local media outlets here don't even consider the harm they do to the public welfare when they refuse to fully describe at-large suspects because of "sensitivity" issues. This is one area where the truly scary nature of political correctness is fully displayed.

Interesting that they list one of the lighter 10mm loads and the heavier .40 load. Also, I'd like to know what grain of powder they were using. the tables I've seen list the 10mm loads that light as being almost 200 fps faster than your table there.

Accurate compared to what? It's all relative.

Example: Michael Jackson (Light-skinned black or medium complexion Albino).

A bulldog is a great description for how she is built!

That is exactly how Hello Kitty was when we got her. She was teeny tiny then just started eating non-stop. In probably a week to 10 days you couldn't feel her little ribs anymore. When I see pictures of her as a kitten I can't belive that tiny kitten grew into this big cat!

Live, on the Crawley/Reagan MSNBC show, Bo Dietl just put up a $10,000 reward for the person responsible for killing or capturing the shooter.

Good story. I've heard similar ones from my brother (former LA prosecutor). Frankly, I'm surprised that no federal judge has ordered the forced hiring of paraplegics, dwarfs and 8-year-olds as courthouse deputies. Don't laugh, but I foresee the day when convicted felons will have to be hired as cops.

Yes it can be quite a stressful life. Have had mine threatened many times. Still pack a handgun to this day. Many, many in prison that have a bone to pick if and when they get out. Phone number is still unlisted. Probably always will be. Do a lot of divorce work now as well as criminal. And those scare me more than the criminal. Divorces can get nasty. Anyway, this guy will be a hero in the eyes of a certain segment of the population. He killed a cop and a judge. That is something that will make him a legend in the minds of some.

I know what you're saying, but I disagree about anybody willing to hide him. I doubt you have experience with THIS sort, shooting up a courtroom and dominating the news cycle nationwide. He's big-league now, up there with the Washington snipers and 9/11 terrorists. This is a red-hot case, and even if he's holed up in some "hard" neighborhood, what self-respecting crack-dealer/gangbanger/ne'er-do-well wants THIS much heat brought down on them? No. It's bad for business. As I said in a previous post, there probably aren't more than a handful of people in the city willing to take the trouble. The most any of the lowlifes will do would be to not call the cops if they saw him, but they would send him on his way toute suite. He's hiding in some abandoned building or area, with or without hostages, or he's holed up in somebody's house or apartment, with hostages, that's my guess.

Thugs will stick up for thugs sometimes, but not all the time. I've got experience as a juror, not a lawyer, but I know for a fact there's "honor" among thieves only some of the time.

"O'Briant said that Nichols hit him with the gun once, knocking him down."

I think in the story posted re his experience, it noted that he [reporter] also ran into a dumpster trying to get away and went down a second time, before getting out onto the street. Probably explains some of his injuries.

BTW, in that story he talked about refusing the perp's order to get into his car's trunk. Smartest move he ever made!
