Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

Perhaps all defendants should be "lojacked" in the future.

The situation I saw was just the ankles. It was a previously violent defendant so that is why the judge took the measures. The reason the attorneys were kept seated was an attempt to keep the defendant's bindings from being discerned.

Most people need to realize that courtrooms are generally empty during trials but for the actual court personel.

On a FR note: It is very interesting that FNC is the dominant source on this running thread.

No. He held hostage the whole courtroom for 2 hours before he escaped.

Ugh! Maddening trying to piece the story together this way.

And I stand by the assumption of the rest of the people in here that I now add my voice to that you are a heartless cretin.

Your comment is more appropriate for the morons at DU.

It is totally bwyond the pale and below the standards of FReepers.

Have fun meeting Zot.

I'll open the defense fund for this POS criminal. Please contribute freely.

I'm betting it's over 50/50 he will never see the inside of a Courtroom again, and I'll just keep the donations, thank you very much.

Nancy Grace on phone on CNN. I was wondering if she knew this judge as she used to be a prosecutor in Atlanta. Indeed she does and she is extremely distraught. Mentions the judge has a beautiful daughter.

She is on the way to Atlanta. Says she was at the airport to go to LA for a victims' rights event and heard the news about the Judge and made immediate plans to go to Atlanta.

She knew the court reporter. Says of all the judges to sit on the bench, this judge is one of the most decent she has ever known. Made lawyers feel proud of their profession.

I hope that law enforcement has Nicols' former fiancee in protective custody.

Wasn't shackled because the bleeding heart defense lawyers didn't like the "negative image" it broadcast to the jury.

Oh, man; add his name to the list of people who made HUGE mistakes last week, huh?

On a side note, as an Iraq army soldier myself I'll keep your son in my prayers.

Yes, he really said that. He also said defense attorneys have fought long and hard for years to get this rule passed, so defendents will not "look" like they are guilty when they walk into the courtroom. Behold the power of Political Correctness.
