Lilacs are about to bloom and some of the tulips opened this morning.

you obviously do not live in beautiful NE Ohio where the only things blooming are Alberta Clippers.. about 6" fresh snow on ground since yesterday

Thank you from Rowan County.

Guilford Courthouse American Flag

Flag History: This flag is an example of the lack of uniformity in American flags during the Revolutionary period as each group chose what flag to be used as it's standard. This flag has the unique elements of an elongated canton and blue stripes. It was raised over the Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina on March 15, 1781 under the leadership of General Greene whose militiamen halted the British advance through the Carolinas and turned them back to the seaport towns. This was one of the bloodiest battles of the long war with the British losing over a quarter of their troops.

You certainly have. LOL. I don't know how you stand it!

I love my DSL and I'm lucky in that my husband is constantly upgrading his computers at work and at home and I get the perfectly good hand-me-down parts. So I am only one step below "cutting edge", and that's fine with me. ;-)

Live near Raleigh now, a Floridiot by birth and growing up.
I haven't been up Chimney Rock but have been on Shumont, a mtn. on the other side of that valley/gorge. Sadly, it's private now, inaccessible.

The drive on US 64 between Brevard and Franklin is stunning, crooked but 7( I think) waterfalls. BTW..Brevard is very near Sliding Rock.

If you are ever in Asheville again, be sure to visit The Grove Park Inn. Fabulous. And try to take in their Sunday brunch. Start with breakfast, eat your way through a cold lunch and top it off with a hot meal and fantastic desserts. An afternoon of decadence. Don't plan on anything but resting afterward.

Thanks for the terrific thread.

Thank you for posting the Guilford Courthouse flag and history.

I have found North Carolina to be one of the most interesting states I have presented. I am fascinated with American history and NC has a lot of that! From what I have read, North Carolinians have been freedom fighters from the beginning. They were the first to declare their freedom from Great Britain with the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. Although it seems there is some disagreement as to whether the declaration actually existed........but I prefer to believe that it did, and apparently most North Carolinians do too! :-)

Wow....I will plan on that for sure! I have told my husband that we have to come back to NC again, there is so much that we didn't get to see and do there.

Glad you enjoyed my presentation of your beautiful state. :-)

My ticket is in my purse. I called Frist's office and doubled checked on the camera issue. Well only those who are up on the platform are not allowed cameras. I am not one of the previliged few so I get to bring a camera.

But I heard that they are having a blizzard 'somewhere' back east, so spring may still be a bit far off for you.

Courage! lol

The Grove Park Inn is fab.. Fireplaces larger than my living room! The old elevators.. the "pictoral hall of fame"..

food.. wow....

But you must ask to stay in the OLD part... the new part is like a Holiday Inn... I love the top floor overlooking the golf course...

I stayed there on several occasions & all memorable...

Gonna try to catch some sleep.. I have had incredible fatigue lately..

sweet dreams Mama et al...

Do you know from what vantage point that first pic was taken. We've spent a lot of springs in the Smokies and this brings back a lot of memories.

OVER DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- Two P-51 Mustangs, a visiting F-4 Phantom II, and an F-15E Strike Eagle fly in formation at the 2005 Heritage Flight Conference here. The Heritage Flight program was established in 1997 supporting the Air Force's 50th anniversary. It involves today's state-of-the-art fighters flying in close formation with World War II and Korean War vintage fighters. The flight is designed to safely display the evolution of U.S. Air Force airpower and support Air Force's recruiting and retention efforts. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Jeremiah Erickson)
