Live near Raleigh now, a Floridiot by birth and growing up.
I haven't been up Chimney Rock but have been on Shumont, a mtn. on the other side of that valley/gorge. Sadly, it's private now, inaccessible.
The drive on US 64 between Brevard and Franklin is stunning, crooked but 7( I think) waterfalls. BTW..Brevard is very near Sliding Rock.
If you are ever in Asheville again, be sure to visit The Grove Park Inn. Fabulous. And try to take in their Sunday brunch. Start with breakfast, eat your way through a cold lunch and top it off with a hot meal and fantastic desserts. An afternoon of decadence. Don't plan on anything but resting afterward.
Thanks for the terrific thread.

Wow....I will plan on that for sure! I have told my husband that we have to come back to NC again, there is so much that we didn't get to see and do there.
Glad you enjoyed my presentation of your beautiful state. :-)

The Grove Park Inn is fab.. Fireplaces larger than my living room! The old elevators.. the "pictoral hall of fame"..
food.. wow....
But you must ask to stay in the OLD part... the new part is like a Holiday Inn... I love the top floor overlooking the golf course...
I stayed there on several occasions & all memorable...
Gonna try to catch some sleep.. I have had incredible fatigue lately..
sweet dreams Mama et al...
