The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

Free Muslims March against Terror Did the Council on American-Islamic Relations ever organize a march against terrorism? Never. In fact, as I documented in "Moderate Muslims March in Phoenix," when a march against terrorism took place in Phoenix, Arizona, CAIR stayed away and then responded with its own rally of "Muslim Americans for Human Rights and Dignity" (note its conspicuous non-condemnation of terror).

The Berger whitewash

When Sandy Berger, the former national security adviser to the president of the United States, was caught red-handed stealing highly classified documents from the National Archives more than a year ago, he was permitted to go free. He was allowed to go out and give speeches. He was even permitted to serve as a national security adviser to a presidential candidate and was talked about as a possible secretary of state for John Kerry, should he have been elected to the White House.

Same thing just happened to us. Our family owns (for generations) mineral, oil, gas rights in both Texas and Oklahoma. We have been leasing them for decades, and now, all of a sudden, we've had multiple calls from companies wanting to buy them. Think we'll hold on to them for a while and see what happens. My sister jumped at the deal and sold her shares last week. Friday, I was offered double the amount she sold hers for.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The first pictures have been released of the 105-year-old woman who died after being targeted repeatedly by burglars.

Amelia Whale, shown here celebrating her 100th birthday, refused to move from the home she shared with her younger brother Leonard in Islington, despite four break-ins in 18 months.

Police installed security bars and CCTV last year after the third burglary. But that did not stop Bernard Gallagher, 23, and Mark O'Brien 26, raiding her home last September and stealing £2,000.

The men were captured on CCTV.

The pair, both travellers, were caught on camera and traced to a campsite. They now face jail.

But Miss Whale, known to her friends as Dolly, will never see them receive justice. She died from natural causes last month after living in fear. Her friends and family said she never recovered from the trauma of the break-ins - and have called for lengthy jail sentences to be imposed."

Islamabad: Pakistan is to buy four frigates for its navy from long-time ally China, the defence ministry said on Monday, ahead of a visit by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

"Pakistan and China have signed four contracts for the construction of four F-22P frigate ships for Pakistan Navy," a Pakistani defence ministry statement said.

The frigates will be equipped with anti-submarine helicopters, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles and other defence systems, the statement added.

"These ships, after construction, will be inducted into Pakistan Navy which would not only enhance the operational capabilities of Pakistan Navy, but will also make impregnable the seaward defence of Pakistan," it said.

The statement did not say how much Pakistan would pay China or how long it would take to build the four warships.

The contracts were signed by Pakistan defence production secretary Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai and a senior Chinese official in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, near Islamabad, the defence ministry statement said.

China is Pakistan's strongest ally and Islamabad relies heavily on Beijing for its defence needs."
