The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

U.S. works 'day and night' to rein in al-Qaida
Full Story

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

Getting rid of the body by dumping it in acid? That was part of the storyline from a movie

Perhaps it gave someone ideas? Grotesque and downright mean, nasty and heartless. Wonder if these people are some who "visit" up north of the border whenever they like?

I looked at my education page today to see what the cartoonist put up on the page. There's Terri lying in bed and a bottle labeled "vinegar" is at the bottom of the bed. You can see the cartoon commentary at the bottom of the page:

"U.S. to Sell Fighter Jets to Pakistan"

Friday, March 25, 2005

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON — The Bush administration rewarded Pakistan, an improbable ally in the war on terrorism, with a promise Friday that it could buy sophisticated U.S.-built F-16 warplanes (search). Pakistan's nuclear rival, India, immediately complained the sale would threaten its security.

The sales would represent a shift in policy after years of sanctions and harsh rhetoric from Washington over Pakistan's nuclear ambitions and what U.S. administrations have seen as tolerance for Islamic extremism."

We have entered an age of disposable people

Your tagline is SO real. I've read of prisoners on death row up for organ transplants, making me wonder what parameters make a person a viable candidate for life in America.

Happy Easter to you and to your family as well all4one! We are all blessed here, no matter our monetary status as we have a supportive TM family and the gifts of God's grace, love and compassion.

Japan Warns Visitors To Indonesia On Terrorism - Kyodo

From the Dow Jones Newswire, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

NEW YORK - Japan's Foreign Ministry on Thursday warned Japanese citizens planning to visit Indonesia of potential terror threats during a three- day Easter holiday beginning Friday, the Kyodo news agency reports.

The ministry advised Japanese visitors to Indonesia to stay away from crowded places such as shopping malls and hotels frequented by Westerners which could become targets of terrorism, Kyodo said.

The move came after the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia issued a similar terror warning. The U.S. Embassy issued the warning after a group of suspected terrorists recently arrested in the Philippines included those with ties to Indonesia.

Apparent agressive response by Kuwaiti security has broken the efforts for the time being.

Excellent summary Godzilla. I highlighted the wording I thought most provactive.

Carpel tunnel! Do you wear one of those wrist wraps they sell for that? Mine seemed to help somewhat. So many of us have CT in some form or another. Keyboarding is probably not the best thing you could do for it. Thanks for your efforts getting the summary to us despite your personal pain!

My question is, what are the responsibilities of the company, the individual company officers, and board of directors ?

Wondering the same thing myself. Having been a Purchasing Agent, I know that when subcontractors are hired, they sign contracts specifying what they will do and generally there are provisions for security written in the contractual language and Human Resources paperwork that their employees sign in agreement (along with copies of ID and I-9 documentation). Question is, was the contractual language written to specify security of employees and if not, why not? If the main company did not enforce or peruse proof of documentation of workers, I would think them equally complicit as the subcontractor for failure to operate in a responsible manner. That's the purpose of audits. Homeland Security is amiss if not paying attention to significant issues such as these.

"Portland Threatens To Pull Out Of FBI Anti-Terrorism Team"
ANNE M. PETERSON
Associated Press

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland's mayor is threatening to pull the city out of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force unless the federal agency gives him and the city police chief a higher security clearance.

The FBI has created task forces with police departments in 100 cities across the country to investigate potential terrorists and prevent possible attacks.

Portland would be the first city to remove itself from such a team, officials say."

You can see the cartoon commentary at the bottom of the page:

Each of the cartoons I've seen on the topic are sympathetic to Terri. God will indeed judge those turning their backs on Terri one day.
