Parents: 4th-Grade Girl To Become Boy Mom Says Youngster Has Male Brain
METHUEN, Mass. -- A fourth-grader who was attending a Methuen elementary school as a girl before February vacation has returned to school as a boy.
The parents of the 9-year-old child said the youngster was born with the body of a girl, but the brain of a boy.
They have asked that he be referred to and treated as a boy by teachers and other students, and school officials are accommodating the request. The parents have even changed the child's name.
The child's mother told The Eagle-Tribune that the family made the decision after consulting with medical professionals. She said the child is still biologically a girl.
The mother has requested that the family not be identified to protect the child.
School Superintendent C. Phillip Littlefield said there is nothing harmful about the child being in the school.
I am as appalled by this case as anyone, but the problem with your line of reasoning is that it would follow that we have no right to correct a cleft palate, since that is how God made the child. We would have no right to seperate conjoined twins, since that is how God made them. We basically would have no right to correct any defect in our bodies because it would violate the will of God.

Hehehe! I was a rough and tumble tomboy with no interest in girly things. Now, I love being the perfect combination of a tomboy and a lady. Who's to say this girl won't be the same way?

This is disgusting beyond description. The kid should be in a foster home and the parents locked up.
I suspect this kid has intersex disorder. Depending on the disorder there may by sound medical reasoning here, but age 9 way too late for this. If so, sad they waited so late to try and change the poor kids sex, that's usually done well before the first year or age.
This poor kid's going to commit suicide someday, and the burden will be on the foolish parents for acting so late.
When you were little, did you think of yourself as a boy rather than as a girl? That's the real issue, not whether the boy in question has female chromosomes, was born with female genitals, or likes sports.
It would be amazing how small-minded, ignorant and cruel religious people can be in enforcing their delusions on the rest of us, if we didn't see it happen so often.
In this case, many religious people don't want to acknowledge the obvious truth of the situation--that the child may have the body of a girl, but the brain is that of a boy. Cnservatives like to go on and on and on about how boys' brains are fundamentally different from girls' (they are) and ridicule radical feminists for claiming that there is no inherent difference. So if there is such a thing as a "boy's brain" that is different from a girl's brain, why is it so impossible that a boy's brain would exist in a girl's body?
This is a fundamental lack of imagination by closed-minded religious people who believe that sex can only be a binary thing (all male or all female) because that's how they read the Bible.
It requires people to be deliberately ignorant about the human body, about how hormones and other chemicals affect brain function, and about the development of the brain in the womb. If the human brain actually does develop in the fetus (and it does), then why couldn't a dose of the wrong chemical at the wrong time change things? If the human brain does not develop in the fetus, why not just allow abortion on demand? If you have any respect for the lives on unborn children as individual human beings, then you must consider this.
The basis for outlawing many drugs is that they cause changes in brain function. Substances (chemicals, etc.) affect how the brain functions. If women take steroids, for example, they can develop manly features and their brains think more like men's brains. What is so complicated about this?
Many religious people deliberately make themselves ignorant because they don't want to know things that conflict with the Bible. It's shameful.

Doctors can't physically tell if it's a male or female by just looking at the exterior sometimes if it's hermaphroditic. A boy can look like a boy on the outside but have ovaries. A girl can look like a girl on the outside but have a small penis that is more internal until puberty sets in.
You mean, biology/chemistry play a role in all this?

"Biologically" would imply they looked at the chromosomes. The child is "xx" not "xy"
Biologically, not a hermaphrodite, but is now a transexual.
I'm not saying "appearance" I'm saying their make up. The article clearly states that BIOLOGICALLY its a girl.

Well...we will never know how much they investigated "biologically". It could have been the writer of the article just stating "the girl is biologically a female" so the readers would not be confused that it was born a boy.
