Well...we will never know how much they investigated "biologically". It could have been the writer of the article just stating "the girl is biologically a female" so the readers would not be confused that it was born a boy.

There are several combintations of chromosomes that could have made this an ambiguous case. This would have made for a longer and therefore more noteworthy (front page) article. These could have been easily stated without to much detail or tiem required. If this was a hermaphrodite, for interest's sake, they would have mentioned it.
This is a cut and dry transexual, of her parent's wishes.
